Getting ready to do IVF with ICSI

Did anyone has the ICSI procedure done with IVF.  This is what we are about to go through for the first time to try for baby #2.  I was just reading up on the whole process, and it is so overwhelming.  Did anyone need to have ISCI?  Were there any concerns about this?

Thanks!

Re: Getting ready to do IVF with ICSI

  • both of my kids are from IVF w/ICSI.   It is standard procedure at my clinic if you have an MFI diagnosis (we were low-count).   We also did limited fertilization, so it was a way to ensure the few eggs we were fertilizing actually met up with a sperm.   We had no issues or concerns.
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Just to echo the other posters, ICSI is fairly standard with an MFI diagnosis, which we have. Our daughter was conceived using IVF w/ ICSI. We had no real concerns about the ICSI itself, but definitely ask your RE to clarify for you if you are nervous about it.

  • For us we were only going to do ONE IVF cycle, and because my husband's morphology came back borderline we didn't want to take any chances that later we would wonder if ICSI would have made the difference between BFP or BFN.

3 out of our 4 mature eggs fertilized with ICSI so I'm really happy we did. (PG with twins now!)

  • All my babies are from IVF with ICSI due to DH's single digit counts.

  • We did ICSI with all 4 of our rounds of IVF due to MFI (low morph).  ICSI worked great in terms of giving us great fert rates (we always had 90%+ with ICSI)).  Personally, I didn't have any major concerns.  I have not read anything conclusive in terms of ICSI causing problems/birth issues and given part of our Dx, we really had no alternative.

  • We did ICSI doe to 0-1% normal sperm morph.  I also have PCOS.  we did get pg with ttc and clomid but lost both pregnancies so ICSI was a way to ensure the best looking (and therefore hopefully the best as far as dna structure) was fertilizing and reducing our chances of miscarrying

  • We are doing ICSI b/c we are using frozen eggs - we were apprehensive as well but we soon realized how often it is done. Best wishes - are you going to Shady Grove?
  • We did ICSI also, with no problems or complications at all.  Good luck to you!
