TTC After a Loss

Who else had few symptoms of pregnancy?

Someone's post below made me wonder. I didn't get many pregnancy symptoms. I wasn't tired, or sick, or feeling sore boobs. I think my sense of smell was the only thing I really noticed. People on my birth month board said it's fine, not everyone has symptons (which I know is true)... but after having a m/c I wonder if something was wrong the whole time. I don't go for my follow up with the ob for a couple more weeks, and my m/c was natural, so I didn't do a D&C with testing. Just curious who else was like this...

Re: Who else had few symptoms of pregnancy?

  • the only symptom ive ever had with any pregnancy was sore boobs...
  • Loading the player...
  • I was a complete nauseaous, exhausted, emotional, hungry, sore, hot mess! I think everyone is different though. You very well could be one of the luck ones who will have symptom free pregnancies.
  • I had ZERO pg symptoms. I think thats why I sort of had that bad feeling from the start that something just wasnt right. I know some women are "lucky" and are sympton free but everyday I would wake up praying for at least one.

  • I was exhausted, hungry, and my boobs were beyond sore (I swear I could feel them throbbing), but I never had "morning sickness".  I was turned off from certain foods, couldn't smell/look at chicken or broccoli.  I was always worried about the lack of morning sickness.  I did feel a little nauseaous, but nothing terrible.

  • I had nothing with either of my pregnancies. Well, I was bloated the first time around, but that probably had a lot to do with all the water I was drinking. Other than that, I didn't feel any different.

  • With my first pregnancy (which was a healthy one), i didn't have many symptoms at all, just a tad nauseus.  With the second pregnancy, which ended at 10 weeks, i was SUPER nauseus and super tired, so in my experience, there wasn't a correlation. However, with the second one, i had a feeling that something wasn't right.  Maybe it was some sort of intuition, but i knew that day that there would be no heartbeat.
  • Nope, I had full-out nausea, almost 24/7; a lot of foods made me sick, even the thought of them, and especially the smell; my nipples hurt like hell and my boobs grew almost immediately, which made them heavy and sore; I was tired all the time, and napped for the first times in my adult life; plus, well, I was a b**** sometimes, something I'm not usually.

It was so bad that I told my boyfriend that was the only time I would ever go through pregnancy. I have obviously changed my tune post-loss, and know I'll do it as many times as it takes.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

  • Other than being tired (getting up to pee 3 times a night), sore boobs and hungry, I felt like a million bucks!

I know there's no correlation, but it's so hard not to think of these things.

  • I had few symptoms and the ones I had were minimal.

My boobs weren't sore, I had no mood swings, I didn't feel bloated.  I had light morning sickness, but I only threw up twice; the rest of the time it was just heaving/gagging.  I was tired, I guess, but I really second guessed myself about whether it was related to the pregnancy or not.  Between people on TB and what I read, it was a can barely function or move a muscle tiredness.  I was more sleepy, but I had that over-the-top tiredness after my M/C.  Who knows.  I also asked several times on my BMB and was assured I was fine and just lucky.

  • My sense of taste was the first symptom I noticed (Cheese tasted like metal).

Then it was breast soreness so bad I felt like some skin peeled off every time I removed my bra, nausea (I threw up for the first time after I started Spotting (2 days before the MC), and I could smell EVERYTHING.

  • People always say that having morning sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy and didn't have morning sickness.  I did have extreme fatigue, sore breasts, increased sense of smell and unusual weight gain in the lower abdominal area.

Sadly, now when I have any symptoms that feel at all familiar from when I was pregnant it gives me a misleading sense of hope.

Though pregnancies can vary from woman to woman, I wonder too if my lack of morning sickness was a sign that the conditions were right to carry to full term.

  • I've had 2 losses (one before and one after DS) and both times, I really didn't experience many symptoms.  When I had DS, I was feeling nauseous before 6 weeks.  That's how I knew something wasn't right with my most recent pregnancy...I was comparing it to my successful pregnancy and my prior loss...and it was definitely like my loss.

  • I had no symptoms for any of my pregnancies when I first got my BFP.  My breasts were tender around 7-8 weeks with both DS and my m/c, and I had acne around my hairline starting around 5-6 weeks.  I had no morning sickness at all.  With DS, my stomach wasn't right, but I wasn't nauseous or anything either.

With all my pgs I had sore boobs.  With my 2 ds I also had horrible morning sickness and super smell.  None of the losses included the m/s.  Now, every cycle I hope to be puking my guts out.

That's exactly how I feel. Miscarriages make you think weird thoughts! I am still waiting for my first post-m/c period, and I've never felt so eager to get it! Also, I really hope I feel sick next time around, for the peace of mind! I KNOW it's not always a sign that a pregnancy is good or bad, but you know we can't control how rational our minds are :)

  • This may have been me... but just to clarify I had zero symptoms. It was probably due to the low hormone levels. At my post op visit the doc said that my low hormone levels were most likely a symptom or indication that something was wrong with the pregnancy, and the reason for the lack of symptoms. Although, my HCG was 20,000 the day of my D&C, so who knows, it could truly could just be that I was a lucky one. One thing I know for sure though, if I don't have symptoms with my next pg it's going to totally freak me out.
  • Nothing besides getting up to pee in the night. With this last pregnancy, I did have a couple days of morning sickness--but not until I'd already learned that the pregnancy wasn't viable.
It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.

When I was pg I felt like a different person. I had nearly every symptom in the book. The symptoms got worse and worse as the pregnancy progressed, then they changed into much scarier symptoms like extreme cramping and bleeding. I had an exteremely fast natural m/c, but up until that moment I knew my pregnancy was progressing normally. It was like I just hit a wall and stopped.

Now, I crave symptoms during the 2WW (which I'm in now). Today I got just a little bit constipated, and a little bit excited! What is wrong with me? Who gets excited over constipation? Only a TTCALer!

To answer your question.. I don't think pg symptoms dictate whether a pregnancy will continue or not. But like many women, I want all my symptoms in full force just for the re-assurance.

  • I had evening sickness (that went away around when I started having trouble).  I also had a crazy sense of smell, intense fatigue, my boobs hurt a lot, and I was cold all the time.  But, I would call the symptoms mild to moderate on the whole.  It bothered me the whole 9 weeks I made it that I didn't "feel pregnant."  I too wonder if that was related to my loss.

This is pretty much what it was like for me. I just knew something was wrong. I also had a healthy first pregnancy.

  • With my first two pregnancies I had very sore and veiny boobs, nausea, bloating and fatigue.  With my last two I had little to no symptoms excepts for veiny boobs.

  • I had none with all 3. The only thing I had was slighty sore boobs for about a week after I tested then that went away. I also got bloated with the last one but I think that was from the progesterone only. Its funny you read about how few/no symptoms can be normal but in my experience they are not. Even after seeing the heartbeat twice I knew it wasn't right to feel as good as I did, kwim?

This. I was pretty fatigued right before we found out and for about two weeks after... but other than that... nothing. I maybe got sick once, but I blamed that on carnival food. I had cramping which scared me more than anything. I was constantly looking for symptoms in hopes that it would tell me everything was fine. Deep down in my gut a week after our BFP, I just knew something wasn't right. But - I also believe that I have a gift of intuition.

  • I had no symptoms either except for being tired which is normal for me anyway...so I understand your fear with the no symptoms thing.
