Sleeping in a hotel with LO?

I am going away for two nights in April with the family. My husband, LO and I are sharing a room which we have not done since he was 3 months old. I'm starting to wonder how this will work. Will we have to put him to bed three feet away while we watch TV on the bed? That will NEVER work. LO is far too interested in everything else going on and will not go to bed. I don't even think he'll go to bed if he knows we're in the room.

Has anyone done this? How did you handle it? I am imagining two sleepless nights in my future.

Re: Sleeping in a hotel with LO?

  • whenever we've stayed in hotels with our kids, the kids sleep in bed with us.  we're not big tv watchers, so that has never been an issue.

the biggest hotel-related problem i've had was going with dd1 to california.  she was still on east coast time and woke up at 4 each morning.  the only thing i could think to do with her that early was let her play in the shower for hours on end until everyone else woke up.

  • We're going on vacation next month and will be staying in a hotel with DD for the first time. I'm going to reserve a hotel room that has the bed in a separate room with a door so that we can put DD to bed in there and be in the "living room" area where the TV and kitchenette is. The hotel that we're staying in is called Homewood Suites by Hilton. There are some others that have similar style rooms. I think they are called extended stay or suite style hotel rooms.

  • Sorry I cant quote but like pp said i would try to get an extended stay hotel or suite with more than i "room". If thats not possible I would maybe try practicing putting him to bed in in the pack and play in the living room or your bedroom while watching tv to see how he reacts

The last time we went we let her sleep with us also.  We have been so exhausted we pretty much went to bed with her.  DH did watch a little TV with the volume low just before falling asleep and it didn't bother our nosey little one.  GL!

  • We are doing this tomorrow. We put a pnp in our bedroom this week and had her sleep in there Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The first night was AWFUL. She would not go to sleep. She was screaming and crying and it was just horrible. But, by the third night it was better. Basically, if we don't get upgraded to a suite and we are all in one room, we'll be turning the lights out and the tv off when she goes to bed.

I'm running a 1/2 marathon on Sunday so I need sleep anyway.

  • If you can do multi-room, that would be ideal. If not, then try to find one with a nook type area where you can put the PNP, like around the corner from the bed. When we went to Portland recently, we just put a blanket over the PNP so that there was some sound barrier between us and LO and used the sleep sheep.

  • Our LOs sleep with us when we stay in hotels. Now that we have two LOs we get the rooms with two queen beds and DD sleeps with my H and DS with me.

  • The last time we stayed in a hotel she was much littler, but we are doing it again in a few weeks.  I plan on bringing the white noise machine and our baby monitor.  Hopefully the white noise machine will drown out some of our noise for her.  We are staying in the same hotel w/some family, so if we can get our rooms nearby, we can go hang out in their room with the monitor.
  • We are in a hotel this weekend, but we have a suite so it worked perfectly last night for us. This morning has been a disaster. M has been up since 6 am whining and crying. Pretty sure he woke up the whole place :(
