3rd Trimester

How long do you go without feeling Lo move before you freak out?

I know that some days she's more sleepy/moves less than others, but I'm getting a little worried.

I felt her move at 10 this morning. I didn't do kick counts, so I don't know how frequent she's moving, but I haven't really felt anything since. I just realized it, so I've been poking at her. If I poke her in the but, she'll move, but she's definitely not nearly as active as she has been the last few days. Does this sound normal?

Re: How long do you go without feeling Lo move before you freak out?

  • there really isnt a time period that I would say..its more like when I think huh he hasnt moved in a while that I will drink something really cold eat a meal or snack and then afterwards do a kick count and it I didnt pass then I would call the doctor

  • My doctor says to call if I haven't felt movement in 24 hours.  If it's been a while since I've felt LO I usually drink something sugary and lay on my side...that usually gets him moving!
  • I don't do kick counts because he really moves through the day, especially if I have recently eaten.  If I ever get to a point (and it's happened a few times over the last few weeks) where I feel like I haven't felt him or even just felt him enough, I'll have some orange juice or a piece of chocolate and lay very still and that always gets him going.

I also think though that the feeling like I haven't felt him or I'm thinking there has been reduced movement always seems to be on days where I have been very busy and maybe I'm just not paying attention to how much he is moving.

now that we are further along in the pregnancy... and they are growing like weeds in there... they are running out of space to really get good kicks/punches in there... so their movements are much more subtle....

I really only feel hiccups and stretches now... occasionally a kick or punch, but nothing like it was a few weeks back

I worry more about it this pregnancy than I did with my last. I'm having some problems with this pregnancy. I have high LFT's and I'm in the process of being diagnosed or ruled out for cholestasis of pregnancy. So it makes me paranoid. If it'd be at work, I'd say it's just because I'm busy, but my doc took me off of work weeks ago, so I'm bored all day and more observant.

  • If it were more than half the day, I would call a doctor just in case.  If I don't feel her for a couple of hours, I usually try to eat/drink something with some sugar, and then sit still.  Usually she's moving around, but I am too so I don't notice it as much.

  • 5 movements an hour is what the L&D nurses and my OB have said. My LO just had a day where it seemed like he never slept in 30+hrs. so he's more quiet today. I don't blame him, he kept me up for those 30+hrs too and I'm exhausted. I still get 5 movements an hour, but they're gentler movements than he usually gives me. I'm not worried.

  • My OB said baby should have at least one busy time per day where you can feel 10 movements in an hour. This LO likes to stress me out by waiting until 10-11pm to have her busy time.

My LO is the same way! Some days I don't feel anything until I'm in bed for the night. I have gone into L&D twice now for monitoring because this baby is such a lazy little bugger! haha

THIS.  try this- if you are worried - then go to the hospitial or call your dr.

  • I probably worry if I haven't felt her all day. It's happened twice thus far but eventually she always does end up wiggling around. I haven't been told to do kick counts, so I'm not, but I do have a general sense of how much she normally moves in a day.

Same here! I can tell that LO has slowed down in movements because he's getting bigger. I to can feel the hiccups and some movement down low. I sometimes worry at night but last night he was kicking my rib cage so hard I was actually saying ouch out loud. Thought the little booger was going to pop a rib out of place.

  • Yesterday was the first day I worried. At about 10 am I felt LO have the hiccups. And that was the only movement I felt all day. Even after eating supper, which she normally moves around/kicks afterwards. So I starting pushing on her & she eventually kicked back. Then at about 5 this morning she was moving around & kicking like normal & she's had her normal movements since.
  • When in doubt, drink some orange juice and lay on your side. If you haven't felt anything in 30-60 minutes, call your triage nurse/MW/hotline. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

  • I have cholestasis. When will you get your bile salt test back?

Provably not until Thursday. If its not Cholestasis I don't know what it'd be. My one LFTS is triple normal! Something is definitely wrong with me.

  • I hate how long it takes to get the results back. Have they looked into HELLP syndrome as well? (sorry, I totally got off the topic of the thread)
