I had a doctors appointment last night and the doctor said that buy the time I deliver the baby will be 8 1/2- 9 lbs. at least. I am 37 weeks and gained 30 lbs. so far. She said the my belly is rock solid and I'm all baby. This scares me. Has anyones elses doctor said this to them?
Re: Dr. said big baby for me!

I have a growth ultrasound on April 2nd...dr won't do it until after 36 weeks since this is after their big growth spurt and they start slowing down. But yesterday at my 35 week appt she thought he looked really raised (when I lay down his bum sticks straight out) so she decided to take a feel (she said that the best way to tell how big a baby is is by having the dr feel the baby over the measurement they take)...the minute she felt him she said "Oh My this is a big baby!" She was estimating him to be 5.5-6 pounds and said he'd be over 8 but taht she's curious what the u/s says.
He's head down, with his butt straight up, but his legs are straight out to my right side. That's the only place he kicks but i've been feeling his head burrowing in my pelvic bone for about a week now. So I have a feeling i'll have a bigger baby as well but my dr has already said if I wanted to she would induce at 39 weeks...and that is something i'm ok with...but the dr and all my family thinks i'll go before 39 weeks. We shall see!
Mine made a joke that if I went late I might "have a toddler" and then muttered something about 10 lbs and emergency c-section. I have only gained about 20lbs and baby is looking to be about 6 1/2 lbs at 34 weeks (estimates of course but still...)
I scheduled an induction to make sure I don't go late haha
My son was 8lbs 11ozs. I don't think of him as a big baby at all. He was perfect in every way, and still felt tiny.
I had a friend who recently had an 11lb 2 oz baby. She was a big baby.
With DS1, I was told I would be having a small to average size baby - he was 9lbs. With DS2, they were guessing a larger baby since DS1 was bigger, 2nd babies tend to be bigger than the first and after feeling around, she thought he felt pretty big. He was 7lbs 5oz.
It's just so hard and subjective to predict the size of babies before they're born!

At 28 weeks baby is measuring in the 70th percentile so I have a feeling this baby will be big also.
DS1 was 8lb 14oz at 39 weeks. I was induced for other reasons, but I couldn't imagine had I gone the 2 weeks overdue!
Sometimes those measurements are off a little bit. For instance, when I was pregnant with DD#1 at my 38 week appt, they did an U/S and she was weighing in 9lbs some odd oz. I went into labor on August 16 (the day before her due date) and she was due ON HER DUE DATE at 12:02 AM weighing in at 7lbs 5oz.
You won't really know until your LO is here :]
My smallest baby was 8.5lbs. 8.5lbs is not that big. 12lbs is big.
And knowing in advance for sure how big the baby is won't happen.
my sister and I were both 8.5-9lbs. To me that isn't that big of a baby. 11lbs is big 9 not that big. Also, my mom is tiny, like 5'2" she has us both naturally no problem.
Yep, we're in the same boat. DD #1 was 9lbs 8oz. I had lots of scans because of other complications and she measured large the entire time so I was pretty confident that she'd be big.
This time around, I'm not measuring 4 wks. ahead. Doc did a quick scan last week just to check her position and fluids...everything was normal. So, we're assuming another big girl.
I had a c/s with DD#1, but am trying for a VBAC this time. Since for both girls, their heads measured normal size, just bellies and the other squishy parts were in the "greater than the 100th percentile" range, I'm feeling good about doing it.
And big babies are awesome! DD #1 slept well, ate well, was nice and strong from the very beginning!
Babies go through growth spurts...they can't read all the books that say "From point A to point B you are supposed to gain .5lbs a weeks..." blah blah. They grow how they grow and some weeks that is more than others. My ultrasound at 31 weeks had by baby measuring really big; 2 weeks ahead, 97th percentile and today at our ultrasound he was normal, only measuring a few days ahead and in 67th percentile. Of course, there is the chance that you will have a giant baby...sure it can happen. I wouldn't freak out too much though, things will likely even out. Besides, at least 8-9lbs isn't monsterous....you could have a 16lber! haha
Yes, my crazy dr. said that I had a huge baby at 36 weeks, he was 6 lbs. That's a pretty normal size.
Thank god the midwives are the ones I see most often, they told me she tells everyone their baby is huge. But I was kind of upset all day about it. She said he would be like 8ish lbs when he's born, and I'm 5'1 myself so it was like she was trying to freak me the eff out.
BUT, consider the margin of error with u/s size predictions, it can be pretty significant sometimes. When I told my midwife about what the dr. said she mentioned that one time she told a lady her baby was 6 lbs, at 36 weeks, when the baby was born around 40 weeks it was a little over 6 lbs. She said it can be totally off at times.
Im 4'9. Go shorties!
I had a growth ultrasound at 34 weeks and my lo was measuring at 4 pounds. At that time I've only gained 6 pounds. I have another growth ultrasound tomorrow at 37 weeks. Dr said big baby for my size is 6-7 pounds...so far this belly of mine is all baby!
