June 2011 Moms

Sigh. (BFing related)

A huge bloody chunk fell off my nipple again last night and now it just stings since, once again, I have an open nipple wound.  I am so tired of this.  Just needed to whine.

  • Oh, no, I'm so, so sorry!!

  • AHHH!  I actually cringed reading that.  YIKES!  I hope it heals quickly.

I don't think anyone would blame you for weaning.  Hell I'm tempted to encourage you to...that can't be good for you or LO. Sad

  • OMG, that's awful. I don't know how you continue to BF, but I admire the fact that you still do. I would have thrown in the towel long ago.

  •  I thought my black and blue bite marks were bad, but open skin wounds sound terrible.  Eek!

  • Ugh, I remember you were having similar trouble before, I hoped that was behind you. Any luck trying to have her take milk from a cup so you can get a little break?

  • Oh no!  There must be something in the water, because Macy has worn another raw, stinging crater in my boob too!  What are we gonna do with these babies??  I'm sorry, I hope you heal quickly.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I don't know how you are still doing it.

  • Ow. I had an open sore on my nipple for six weeks, and it was torture. Lefty is inverted so it went through some serious stretching when LO was first born.

You should see if you can get a script for Newman's Nipple Cream. It's supposed to work wonders.

    Hope you heal soon.

Unfortunately no.  I keep offering sippy cups throughout the day and at meal times but she hasn't even allowed it in her mouth yet.  She just clamps her lips shut and shakes he head to avoid it ( exactly the same thing she did with bottles).  Eventually she has to give in, right?!?

I keep getting recurring milk blisters with shooting pain. I hate it too!

I am so sorry! That sounds terrible :-(

  • Ouch!  Poor mama!

I'm sure you have, but have you tried different types of sippy cups?  MD was finicky about certain kinds, but I just kept trying until I found one she likes (of all things...the take and toss straw cups).  Good luck!

We've tried 4 different kinds, both soft spouts and straws with no luck.  :-(

  • Oh man, I can relate. I had an open wound for about 2 months! I almost weaned because of it. Crossing my fingers that it heals fast for you!

Are you doing anything to treat it? I found going topless for a bit after feedings (awkward...but at the time I didn't GAF!)  and used a tiny bit of neosporin right after feedings so there was a good amount of time for it to be absorbed before the next feeding. It definitely helped.

  • Oh my goodness! I have just a small wound on my left nipple from where (I think) DD's front tooth got me when it first starting coming in. I'm having to get creative with BFing positions to ease the pressure on that area. You probably have already tried that, but I just wanted to mention it, just in case because it seems to be helping me nurse her without as much pain.
