Dumb Mirena question (maybe TMI?)

I never asked but can you use a tampon with mirena? I would assume yes, I did this morning, but I was nervous taking it out.

  • I wasn't told I couldn't!  and at my last checkup (she was checking the placement of mine), she offered me a pad or tampon in case of spotting)

  • That's good to know, I figured if you couldn't, they would have probably told us, I think that's something that would be important.

  • Yep, you can. I have Paragard, and my doctor said tampons are fine with IUDs. I don't know how long the Mirena strings are, but I can hardly reach my Paragard strings. It would be next to impossible for me to grab one along with the tampon string. So plug away! You're safe. :)

  • Yeah it's fine. I know somewhere in the information booklet it says something about being careful of the strings when removing it but I don't even know how that would be possible as the strings are wayy up there.
