Carrier color & baby's gender

Just popping in with a question...I found a brand new BabyHawk on CL for a great price (and from reading posts here, it sounds like I'd be happy with it). I'm due with #2 in October and don't know baby's gender yet.  The carrier has pink straps - the seller is going to send me a photo later today. Would/Have you carry your son in a carrier that is 'girl' colors? I'm guessing it may just confuse onlookers, etc. - obviously mom and baby wouldn't care. It should be like a diaper bag, right - what mom likes, not baby?  Thanks for any thoughts....

Re: Carrier color & baby's gender

  • What mom wants, definitely!

We just bought a car seat with pink on it for DS2 because it was cheaper than all the other (non-pink) designs.

    DS1 - Feb 2008

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I would wierdly have more of an issue with a boy having pink than a girl having blue. So much for equality hmm? But if it's just some on the straps I wouldn't care. My baby girls ring sling is blue.
  • I rented a beco online and didn't get to pick which pattern came.

    I got this one:

which is a "girly" pattern with flowers and pinks in it. When it came I used it for the rental time and at the end of the rental decided to buy that one! I just loved the pattern so much and figured for such an expensive price I would use it for more than one child and if my next one is a girl it will work fine.  I use it all the time and people assume Charlie is a girl and if it's a total stranger I usually just let them thing they are right.

  • If you have a partner, I would pick based on what both of you like and will use. Beyond our preferences, we don't care about color at all in our house. One of our favorite cloth diapers is hot pink. My DH--who wasn't wild about the idea of a rainbow wrap at first--even wears the Amitola every now and then.
  • Ditto on picking for what mom likes not the baby! People are going to get confused/make stupid comments no matter what so you might as well get one you like (especially if it's a good price). I had DD in a PINK outfit and had a woman ask if she was a boy...
