Natural Birth

New to Natural

Hello everyone~

I've just made the firm decision that I am definitely having my baby completely natural after watching The Business of Being Born. I am starting to research the Bradley Method, but what would you ladies recommend so I can get started?  I know this isn't a decision to be taken lightly so I want to be armed with all of the information that is out there.

I would appreciate everyone's input and advice.

Thanks :)

  • Congratulations on your decision and way to go on educating yourself.GIving birth without meds was the most challenging and amazing thing I've ever done!

I would also recommend researching Hypnobirthing. I used this with DS's birth and had a fabulous experience.

Agreed Hypnobirthing is part of what made DD's so amazing!  I know people who have had great success with Bradley too though :)

You might check out the book "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" It is filled with beautiful inspirational stories as well as practical knowledge.

  • I loved Ina May's book. I have not had my LO yet but I love Hypnobabies so far. Just to add fuel to your fire...Pregnant in America was another movie that really swayed me toward NB. I also gained alot of confidence from watching all the NB videos on you tube. Happy researching!!

  • I did Bradley method. I think the method doesn't matter much, what matters is learning the stages of labor, learning what is normal and what isn't normal, and learning how to relax and work with your body instead of against it. Bradley was great, but I'm sure hypnobirthing and other methods are fine too.

Natural birth was great. I cannot rave enough about it.

I will second reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. It was very inspirational and helped me stay the course. I also read the La Leche League book "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding," the opening chapters are about labor and delivery, and they talk a lot about the hormones and how important they are. It also discusses how interventions can really interrupt the normal process of bonding and breastfeeding. It was very helpful.

  • I'm new too and just a few weeks further along than you are.  I'm planning on doing Hypnobirthing.  I've heard amazing things about it.
