Anyone had to deal with this yet? My poor DD is 7.5 months old, and has had a nasty cold for the past week. Last night we noticed a little discharge from one eye, but nothing major. She woke up at 2am for a bottle, and her left eye was super swollen & stuck shut. It looked awful. When she got up for the day, the right eye was starting to look bad too. We went to the pedi & luckily she doesn't have an ear or chest infection, it's just viral pink eye from her cold. She got some drops, so hopefully she will be back to normal soon.
If you've dealt with this, how long did you keep LO "quarantined" for? I kept her home from daycare today, and plan on doing the same tomorrow. Her drops say to use for a week. I'm just praying DH & I don't get it as well. Yuck!
Re: pink eye
3 kids in our neighborhood all just had pink eye. 2 of the kids had to be quarantined for 24 hours after the start of the drops, and the other was just 24 hours after the start of the drops. It's most contagious before you even notice it, so what's done is done in terms of spreading it amongst yourselves.
As for how long you need to keep LO home, you need to talk to your pedi or your pharmacist about the drops you're giving LO and find out how long until she's not contagious. I don't know how your daycare works in terms of reintroducing a sick kid; do they require a doc note? Either way, I'd follow up with a phone call or an email to your doc's office for more information.
