Parenting after a Loss

Bath Time

When your LO was a newborn, did you wash their face during bath time?  It is the unhappiest time for DS right now but I know it will eventually get better.  DH just laughed at me because I started nursing him while still wrapped in a towel.  EmbarrassedHe was hungry and upset!

Re: Bath Time

  • I washed (and still wash) DS' face every morning and night, and at bathtime, but with just plain warm water.  He has eczema and sensitive skin, so I do not put soap on his face.  He is not a fan of bathtime in general, but he tolerates the face and hand wash that I do when he gets up and goes to bed.

I talk through it the same way every time, so it is part of our routine and serves as a nice distraction.  "Let's wash one eye(lid), then the other eye...around your nose and your mouth...one cheek and then the other cheek...and your forehead...and back by your right ear...and left ear...and under your chin (this I do use soap for if he had a spitty or sweaty day)...now your right hand with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 fingers...and your left hand with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 fingers" , etc.

I love this!!  I am def going to steal it.  I know right now, he hates it because he gets so cold.  DH and I both participate so it goes faster.

  • I wash DD's face. She doesn't care, she just tries to eat the washcloth. The part she hates is when I wash her neck.
