Best for Vaca? City Mini or Umbrella Stroller?

Umbrella strollers usually weigh around 8-10 lbs and don't have too many bells & whistles (no child tray, small cargo basket, etc) but they're also super cheap.

The Baby Jogger City Mini has an optional snack tray, bigger cargo basket and is an all-around awesome stroller - but it weighs 17 lbs.

Price aside, would the 7lbs make a big difference on a vacation? Would you rather have a lightweight umbrella stroller with no accessories or a 17 lb jogging stroller that maneuvers well and can hold all the crapola you bring/buy on vacation?

WDYT?

  • We just got back from Disney and took our City Mini and I loved having it. The tray and storage space definitely came in handy. But I think the best feature was the huge canopy. DS fell asleep in the stroller a couple of times and it was nice to have him out of the sun.

I don't think the extra weight was a big deal. That stroller is awesome. It folds up and opens up so easily, and I definitely wouldn't call it heavy. It was very easy to push and maneuver.

  • We have only ever owned the City Mini and we've taken it on many vacations w/ us.  We dont' find the weight to be a detriment, and we always use the cup holder and cargo area.

Also, it reclines and there have been plenty of times where we were able to recline DS back so that he could take a nap.

Thanks! It's a shame how true it is. :(

  • We did Disney with ds when he was younger, and used an umbrella stroller. What a PITA. I would go with the City Mini for the storage and recline, and it pushes a lot better/easier.
  • Depends where you are going  and how long DS will be in it.

I brought my double City Mini to Disney last year!! AWESOME! The kids were able to nap and were comfortable.

I have a maclearn umbrella stroller and it does recline and give me a little basket for storage/
