Talk to me about buying diapers

I CDed the boys until just a couple months before PTing. Because of this I didn't really ever look at diaper prices just got the Target brand or whatever.  We had tons of rash issues with the boys though and Micah just got a rash and so I've decided not to CD him (I'm pretty sad about this).

So now I need to figure out where to buy diapers. What is the amazon deal I've heard about? Any particularly cheap but good brands? Where do you get your diapers? Thanks.

Re: Talk to me about buying diapers

  • We've had no issues with the Target brand diapers with DS1, but we had him in Pampers swaddlers sensitives until Size 3 b/c I was afraid to try anything new until he was older.

Sorry, not sure about Amazon deals. I signed up for coupons at Pampers.com.

  • I use Luvs.  Hands down the best diaper for the price.  I buy from BJs (a warehouse club) when I have a coupon and stock up.  Price wise, that will beat even the best store brands and Amazon.

Luvs is made by Pampers so there are a lot of similarities there.

  • have you tried coconut oil for the rash? My girls have never had a rash in CD's but I'm in a CD group and some of the girls SWEAR by coconut oil for rashes!

Also, if you are having rash problems in CD's, they'll probably be worse with disposables! I used disposables when the girls were newborns and they had wicked rashes and within days of us switching to CD's the rashes just disappeared never to return!

  • I agree that rashes will be worse in disposables if you are already having trouble with rashes using CD.  What detergent do you use?  Have you tried coconut oil or Grandma El's?  Both are CD friendly.

If you do decide to go with sposies, I would recommend Seventh Generation due to what you've mentioned about rashes.  They are not the cheapest but if you do Amazon Subscribe and Save you will get a good discount, especially if you have a Prime membership (TOTALLY worth it; I think my UPS man hates me because I order so much of our household and personal items, gifts, etc. from Amazon!).

  • We've always bought Pampers at Sams...we have never had an issue.

  • We've always used Pampers Baby Dry and never had a problem with rashes. We order through Amazon Subscribe & Save - it's no longer the super cheap deal that it used to be before the recent price increase, but it's still a little cheaper than the warehouse stores and the convenience of having a box appear on my doorstep is worth a lot to me.

Although, if you're only diapering one, maybe it's easier to clip coupons and go to the store?

    ETA: Micah is so cute!

  • We get Huggies at Costco, I love the brand and amazon mom hasn't ever been able to beat their price (that I could find) plus costco will have coupons off diapers every couple months.

  • We use both disposables and cloth.  I used to buy my diapers through amazon but when they changed the plan I went back to buying at Sam's Club.

I second coconut oil for rashes.  It's the only thing Erica will let me put on her bottom! I also find probiotics to be very helpful when we're going through a period of rashes. Could the rashes be due to build up on the diapers?  Maybe a good stripping would help (how's that...a sentence I never thought I'd type!).  Good luck!

This for me too.  I think the cost is about the same as going to Sam's Club, but the convenience is great!

He's ADORABLE!  Oh, and I sent you a PM a couple days ago and forgot to page you!

I haven't used coconut oil but have been using the Earth Mama Baby Bottom Balm. The older boys still got some rashes but not as many when I switched to disposables. I feel like I've tried everything with CDs. Many different detergents (Charlie's soap, drops, all free and clear and most recently Country Save), fabric softner, vinegar, bleach in case it was yeast, sunning, stripping. The one other thing  I was told to try is not using BG and putting fleece liners in. I may try those two things before I ultimately call it quits but when Micah's tooshie looked so sore I just threw my hands in the air and said I'm done.

  • We always buy Target brand - they are the cheapest and work just as well as the expensive ones.

  • I can't speak to what brand will work best, but so far my research has found that Costco for Huggies and Sams for Pampers is cheapest. We have a Costco membership and my parents have Sams, so we will get both until we figure out what works best.

  • Amazon Mom has some pretty amazing "Subscribe and save" deals.  They show you how much it is per diaper even.  You can sign up for 3mos free as a trial.  We have this even though we're planning on CD'ing after the first few weeks, for wipes and disposables when we do buy them.

And I agree that disposables probably won't help the rash issue (from what I've read) if you go w the chemical kind.  We are using Earth's Best when we use disposables -- I of course can't yet say how well they work for our boys re: leaks, etc., but, again, from what I've read, the more natural diapers are better for things like rashes.

  • Target diapers are pretty inexpensive and work well. I don't like Walmart diapers however. Amazon diapers for us at least aren't worth the subscription because we can get the for the same price in town. We get our diapers at BRU and use pampers; there are almost always sales and/or coupons so we never pay full price.
