Can someone recommend a less expensive car-seat with 5pt harness ?

We have the Britax Frontier 85 in our car but need to get one for the grandparents vehicle. DS is 60 lbs and will be 4 years old in April. I prefer something with a 5-PT harness. We love the Britax but it's a bit pricey. Tia!

  • How long is his torso (if you're not sure, have him up straight sit cross cross next to a wall, mark the top of  his shoulders then measure)? At 60 lbs there are not going to be many options other than the frontier. The graco nautilus is a good seat, but the max harness weight is 65 lbs, so it won't last him terribly long. You could also look into the evenflo securekids seats, although I don't believe they harness above 65 lbs either. There are a few other high harness weight seats on the market, but most of them are convertible seats with lower top harness slots, so they're unlikely to last as long for him if he is tall.

  • I don't know if it's any cheaper but the Radian 80 has a five point and goes up to 80 lbs.  We have three of the 65's (go to 65 lbs) and LOVE them.

  • The radian is good, but she was recommending something that was less expensive than a frontier and the radian is more expensive.

  • I have the Graco Nautilus and have had my 4 yr old in it for over a year.  She'll be 5 in July and is still in the 5pt harness.  I found it the best bang for your buck since it converts to the seatbelt, and then to a regular booster.

By me, Walmart had the best price.

  • Graco has a new seat, the Argos that 5 point harness goes up to 70 pounds.
  • COSCO has a 5 pt high-back booster up to 80 lbs for like $40, my mom got one because she only has her short distances.

ETA: They sell them at Target

This seat has a weight limit of 40 lbs in harnessed mode. It goes to 80 as a booster. It also has very short top harness slots, so very few 3 year olds fit height wise even if they're below 40 lbs.
