Thoughts? Slow rising betas, AF, and an utterly perplexed me

I went in for b/w this am because they wanted to trace me down to zero. I'm currently on CD4, AF has been medium to light, but she's Definetly been here.

Last Wednesday: HCG 9, progesterone 4.5

Friday: HCG 13, progesterone 2.8

Sunday: AF arrived

Today(Wednesday): HCG 40, progesterone 4.5

WTF?!? Isn't that number suppose to go down? I have more bw on Friday, and an appointment with the OB on Monday ... But am I looking at an ectopic or could this still just be a chemical? Anyone have AF and their numbers still go up? My OB was very vague and non committal, only insistent that it's not viable.

I don't want to freak you out, but that sounds like an ectopic. This is what happened with all three of mine.

I have no answers for you, just wanted to say that I'm sorry your dealing with this. It doesn't sound as if your OB was very supportive. I'm like you, I always thought that if you got your period, your levels would be zero.

The HCG levels seem too low to be ectopic but I would think there is probably some retained tissue. ((hugs)) I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I would call your OB.

ETA: Sorry didn't realize your loss was so recent. Could be ectopic.

I want take back my first reply. It's not that it sounds like an ectopic, it's just that that's what happened with me. There are woman over on PGAL that had "AF" and are still pregnant.

I have to disagree with this. My 2nd ectopic, at 16 dpo my HCG was 8, then 20, then 49 which would be right about where she is right now.

This is what I'm expecting, I appreciate the confirmation that I'm not freakong out over nothing. I have no cramping though (at least I didn't until I heard the numbers. Its like MF only not the fun anticipating kind). With number like his I'm not even going to attempt for hope that it's anything but non viable

You're not freaking out over nothing. This is why they follow your beta to 0. What's important is that you're being closely monitored. If it is ectopic, they can treat you with methotrexate. If they feel it's retained tissue, they will do a D&C.

Oh man, I am so sorry about the conflicting blood work. I hope your numbers settle soon and you can move on both physically and mentally. I hope your OB gives you some clear answers soon.

Yeah I did an ETA. I didn't realize she had her loss so recently. Having AF threw me off bc I also didn't realize it was a CP. I was thinking her loss was a bit ago.

I have to agree with Delino. My ectopic were super slow to rise at first and then jumped up out of nowhere after I started bleeding. Big ::HUGS:: hon. So sorry you're going through this.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with all this uncertainty. When I had my C/P, one of the things that confirmed it (besides the bleeding) was that my numbers decreased rapidly. My OB said that with a chemical preg, you will see numbers decline very fast, esp once you start AF. When I started my AF, it was actually at a 3. I am hoping that maybe there's some weird fluke going on and that it's not an ectopic.
