TMI- Itchy girl bits but no diagnosis

Hello there,

Soooo- my lady business is itchy but it's very localized to the clitoris area and there's zero discharge.  I had my OB test me for a bacterial infection and a yeast infection which both came back negative.  He said it could be from swelling but he wasn't totally sure about that.

Anyone else have this?  Or know what it could be if it's something treatable?  I tried using Vagisil which just burned.  He recommended hydrocortisone which didn't do anything either.

  • I have the same thing, but near my perineum... doc said swelling here, too.

  • I posted something similar a couple weeks back which also turned out not to be any infection. I've found that wearing tight underwear makes it worse which lends credibility to the swelling theory. Wearing skirts or loose pants to work and spending as much time at home wearing sweatpants commando has helped. I haven't tried any creams yet.
Nevermind me, I'm too distracted by my mini-carrots to think properly image

  • I was having this issue yesterday at BRU, it was terrible. I have found that wearing no undies at night after I get home has helped some.
  • I'm dealing with the same itchies, but haven't found any relief yet.

  • Ditto what everyone else has said, and it's all attributed to swelling. My whole region has been plagued with swelling, both inner and outer labia. Going commando would definitely help, but I am so mucous heavy that it isn't super feasible so I've been trying to keep things as loose as possible.

  • Glad to know that I'm not the only one!  I have the same itching and I thought it may be an infection, but it's only by my clitoris.  This did not happen with my first pregnancy.  Weird.  And very uncomfortable especially at night!

  • Just another reason being pregnant is so glamorous!  I'm fat, pimply, I can't sleep, my hair is greasy and my vagina itches.  Awesome!

Nature has to make pregnancy reallly uncomfortable or many of us would elect to stay pregnant forever.  I already have one LO- I know what's coming.  Until about a week ago I would have said to let baby bake in there forever, but I'm hitting the point where I'm ready to say "just get him out". Ugh.

  • I had the same thing. Try sleeping with an ice pack between your legs. I did that for a few nights and you wouldn't believe the difference! It used to keep me up at night, but I'm finally able to get some rest and the swelling has gone way down.

  • I agree with pp.  ice the area it will reduce swelling ergo reduce itchy-ness.  also try powdering during the day, use baby powder or talc because it is safe and will help reduce friction :-)  good luck

  • Had this too and no infection. My doc gave me yeast infection cream to put on the outside for a few days, which worked.I notice it more if I'm sweating a lot and the cream helps. I also have vulvadynia and a sitz bath helps with irritation too.

I have this, but for me it is not related to pregnancy. It is lichen sclerosis and I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. It is a chronic skin condition (only in that area) that I will have forever. I am on a prescription steroid cream for it (clobetasol). This may not be the case for you, but wanted to throw the possibility out there.

  • I was having this same issue.  My Dr said from all the extra blood flow the veins get larger and cause the itchy feeling.  Taking a cool shower or bath before bed really helps!  Good luck!!!

  • TMI I know but just to throw another option out there...I had that happen once and it was a small hair stuck in the skin folds there from when I had shaved.  The skin got kinda irritated and itchy and I really thought it was yeast related. Might not hurt to check out the area and make sure there's nothing irritating the area.
