? about book- Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care

Has anyone read Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care by Jennifer Block.  I borrowed this book from the library and am only 1/4 the way through it and have to return it tomorrow.  I am wondering if there are any 'tips' in the book about how we can 'push' back if needed or if it is basically the same information that I can learn in the Business of being Born videos?

Thanks so much!

  • Hmmm... I think I read it, or most of it, but it was mostly just depressing truths about the system. I don't remember it being useful in finding a solution to the problems.

  • It's been awhile since I've read it, but I don't really remember it being the type of book that has 'tips' in it.  Someone correct me if my memory is foggy.
  • I really like the book, but to me it was much more about the history and research than about 'tips' for having a natural birth or dealing with the 'system'.

  • I read it as well, it is worth a read because there are case studies and research references that give credence to the sort of arguments discusses in the BOBB. It is not a book about dealing with the system or how to have a natural birth, but I enjoyed it a lot for the factual aspect.

  • If you're looking for something that does have tips like that, you may want to check out Natural Hospital Birth.

This.  I read that after seeing BOBB.  It doesn't offer tips...besides don't go to a hospital.  :)  If you are looking for tips, I'd find another book.
