Interview: Year of the Dragon babies

Hi all,

My name is Anita Li; I'm a reporter for the Toronto Star.

I'm working on a story about parents who plan to give birth in the Year of the Dragon in order to have a "dragon baby."

    Umm, I think we are all giving birth in the year of the dragon because that is when we are due, and not giving birth in order to have a dragon baby. Your wording is awkward..and you are a journalist or reporter?

    I don't know anything about the OP, but I have heard it's some kind of Chinese phenomenon that women deliberately get pregnant in order to have a baby born in the year of the dragon because it is considered good luck in their culture.

    My boss is from China and she said the same thing, that people consider it very lucky to have a child born in the year of the dragon and that they do try to time it so that this is when their child is born.

    Single Mother by Choice. Life didn't work out the way I planned so I did it on my own. IUI #s 1-3, unmedicated = BFN, IUI #s 4-6, 50mg Clomid, Ovidrel = BFN IVF #1: 23R, 20M, 17F. 5 day transfer 2 blasts. 2 Snowbabies BFP 6dp5dt, Beta #1 7dp5dt = 58, Beta #2 9dp5dt = 114, Beta #3 10dp5dt = 187 1st Ultrasound = 5/3, not much to see yet. 2nd Ultrasound = 5/17, TWINS!!! Hospital Bed Rest at 32 weeks due to pre-ecclampsia and severe edema. Audrey Grace, 5lbs9oz, & Lydia Louise, 6lbs, born via emergency c-section on 12/6/12 at 36w1d My IVF Journey

    It is currently the year of the dragon.  It began on Feb. 4 2012 and ends on  Feb. 9 2013.

    This.  The dragon is the most revered animal to a lot of Asian cultures.  Even in the Vietnamese culture a folklore talks about how the Vietnamese people were born from a dragon and fairy princess.

    I'm an English girl living in Singapore and am now 10 weeks.  When I tell the locals I'm preganant, the first thing they generally say is 'ohh a dragon baby!  very good luck'   It's a very big deal here.  I know quite a few couples that tried specially for a dragon baby.  Even more so as next lunar year is year of the snake which is not so desirable.

     Even the hospitals are preparing for a birthing boom this year.
