Pregnant after a Loss

Who had their A/S performed by a perinatologist?

My A/S is scheduled for tomorrow morning with a perinatologist (my OB does a 16 week U/S and then sends patients to a specialist for the 20-week A/S). I'm pretty nervous. What should I expect? I have been anxious before every ultrasound so far and told myself that I would stop being so nervous if I got good news at the A/S (we'll have to see about that though) so I feel like tomorrow is a BIG deal. I would appreciate any T&P that you can spare :) Thanks.

Re: Who had their A/S performed by a perinatologist?

  • With my DD, I was high risk for several reasons, so I had all of my scans at a MFM clinic and saw a perinatologist afterwards. With this pregnancy, all is well, so all of my scans have been at my OB's office. The a/s was pretty much identical at both places. If anything, the machine at the MFM clinic was a bit clearer, so we were able to get better pictures printed, but otherwise I didn't notice any difference.

  • Bumping from kindle one handed. Our perihad a big flat screen for us to watch the. Whole scan. They were also able to record it. A nurse (I'm assuming) did the scan and the doc came in after to double check. They may do a vsg cam to check your cervix. I think I was allowed to have an empty bladder. Best of luck!!

  • I will be seeing an MFM for my A/S on 4/9. The appts with them are great. Much more time and detail then the ones with my OB. There machine is so much better too - 3D/4D.

  • I've always had a level 2 u/s done in a peri's office.  The tech does the u/s, but the peris are there to consult if necessary.  I did need a consult for #1 b/c he had a dilated renal pelvis.  It was just watched while I was PG and we saw a pedi uro when he was born.  It was scary at the time, but turned out fine.  I'm glad they sent me to that office for my A/S, I think it's much better to have the peris on hand to consult with right away.

  • I had my NT scan and my A/S at the peri. With my A/S, first I had the regular scan with the tech. It was long, probably 25 minutes or so. Then the peri came in and talked to us about the results. After that he did the Level II u/s himself which was also pretty long. I think we were there about an hour and half total. Do you know if you'll need the Level II or not? Without that we would have been in and out a lot faster.

Hmm, I don't know if I need the level II u/s or not. We'll see... I go in in a couple of hours.
