LO has been sent home for diarrhea twice in one day multiple times, and of course, has to stay home the next day. What does your daycare consider normal? I feel like every blow-out is considered diarrhea!
This is an issue for us, too. DS has had actual diarrhea bouts, and they are nothing like what his teachers sometimes call diarrhea. We just let it go because I'm glad they are cautious. I know the same standards apply to all the kids.
our daycare sends a child home if they have more than 2 hershey squirts.
now- with infants - it's a different story... esp if they are starting to eat solids.... the baby room was much easier about it- since so much of the poop babies have is runny.
i would talk to the teachers about it- and the director- if you don't think it's really a stomach bug .
I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.
Our policy to be sent home is one diarrhea with a fever of 101 or higher or 3 diarrheas in a 24 hour period. We consider diarrhea a watery stool, not just loose. It also has to be different from a child's typical stool. Some of them are typically looser than others, and we get to know the kids' pooping habits.
That's exactly the problem - that's just the way he poops! He's not even 8 months old yet and is experimenting with food. I brought him in today and when I went to take him out of the Baby Bjorn I saw that he had made a mess on the 3-minute-walk over... he needed a new outfit... and the girl said something about, has he gotten sick yet/blah blah blah about diarrhea. I was worried that he was going to get sent home AGAIN. This happens every other week - if he happens to poop twice in the under-nine-hours that he's there.

Are you breastfeeding? I know I had to take in printed material explaining that bfed babies naturally have runny poop before they would quit writing "diarrhea" on his paper all the time. Once he did get sick with a virus and they saw actual diarrhea they were much less confused...
In that case I would definitely talk to the teachers and director. If all else fails, get a dr's note saying that this type of stool is typical for your child and maybe describing what would be a concern that day care would need to send him home. We can't argue a dr's note!
I would talk with the teacher and director about another kind of rule if possible for infants. If he is otherwise acting fine, maybe they give it another go round and see what happens. Infants' digestive systems change so much, hard to tell unless behavior has altered. Their hands might be tied by regulations but they should be able to explain that. Our center uses some discretion. Usually it's pretty obvious if the BM is a viral kind because the smell is pretty unmistakable.
