Trying to Get Pregnant

Short Luteal Phase

I just finished my second cycle charting for baby #2, and it looks like I have a pretty short luteal phase.  The first one was 10 days (with 2 days of spotting) so I wasn't too worried, but this last one was only 8 days with a day of spotting before that. My temp dipped below the coverline at 8 DPO.  I was rereading TCOYF and it said I might have low progesterone.

So, what do I do now? Should I take a B6 supplement? Should I call my doctor to talk about progesterone supplements?

Here's my chart:

Re: Short Luteal Phase

  • I would chart for a couple more cycles before getting worried about anything. A 10 day LP is technically sufficient, so one cycle with an 8-day LP is not much to go off of. If your LP is consistently under 10 days for 3-6 cycles, then I'd talk to your doc about it.

  • Thanks, I appreciate your response.
  • I have a short LP that ranges from 5-10 days. I take a vitamin b complex, but the right dosage ranges from person to person. I would recommend talking to your OBGYN.

  • Did you notice a difference after starting the vitamins? Do you think I should call my doctor now or should I wait until I have a few more cycles?
