Pregnant after IF

ibuprofen in first trimester

I've been reading, and hearing from everyone (it was even on the NBC nightly news recently) that ibuprofen in the first trimester is a bad idea because it can cause a miscarriage.  However, my OB today recommended 600 mg of ibup. every 8 hrs to mange my severe lower abdominal pain. If I had any other choice I would have opted not to take it, but I've been in excruciating pain since Friday, and all the Tylenol extra strength I took was not able to make a dent in the amount of pain.  Has anyone taken ibuprofen in the first trimester with no negative impact on their pregnancy?? (If you have a not too positive story you can share that too; I'm looking for complete information).

  • My RE told me absolutely no ibprof. He's pretty relaxed overall too, so when he says no, I know its important! I've been getting bad headaches and he did say if it was really bad he would give me tylenol with codeine, but I opted not to take it.

  • I'm sorry you're in so much pain Sad Tylenol sucks, IMO...it does nothing.

My RE is also pretty laid back, even to the point of saying he'd be disappointed in me if I didn't have at least one beer or one glass of wine while I was PG, but he was pretty adamant about no Ibuprofen use, even as early as when I was starting stims.

I have three subserosal fibroids pushing on my uterus.  It's supposed to get a lot worse as they get bigger...

  • No ibuprofen.  Ever. Even while being treated I was on a strict no ibuprofen regimen. I haven't taken any since 2007.

I was told absolutely no NSAIDs (ibuprofen is an NSAID).  It can cause problems with baby.  I have severe pain from a really large fibroid and arthritis that affects most of my joints, but mainly my back.  When the pain got really bad, I was directed to take a narcotic (which my OB prescribed).  They didn't help me either.  I hope you figure out something that makes you feel more comfortable!!

  • I was told absolutely no ibuprofen.  I would see if there is any pain killers she can prescribe because I have heard of some of them safer to use than ibuprofen.  Hope you get some relief soon!
