Workout after delivery

When did you start running/working out after delivery? I delivered Thursday and have almost no bleeding but had an episotimy - Want to get back to working out to lose weight- I am FF feeding and have ran/weight trained throughout the entire pregnacy. Any advice from runners would be great ! I don't want to wait 6 weeks to get cleared from my doctor. Thank you

Re: Workout after delivery

  • I started walking at 2 weeks pp, about 2 miles a day.  DS is 3 weeks today and I jogged 3 miles this morning.  Listen to your body and do what feels right, but I would give yourself at least 2 weeks to recover.  Less than a week of recovery seems a little extreme to me.

  • I was pretty hard core until the end of my pregnancy.  I did some light workouts at 4 and 6 weeks after baby but I really didnt feel comfortable until about 8 weeks after baby.  General housework and keeping up with 2 older children was enough of a workout for me.  Take care of yourself and enjoy your cuddle time.
  • I started walking 5 days PP (to me it felt so good to stretch my legs and get outside).  I didn't do anything beyond walking until my 5 week PP appointment - then I started running, biking, etc.  Do pace yourself at first.  About 2 weeks PP I walked like 3 miles and it felt great that day but I could barely move the next day because I was so sore.
  • I started walking about 5 days PP too. It felt great to get out and I'd walk short bursts here and there. At 2 weeks, I went for a run, and I was so sore the next day and it wasn't worth it. I waited a few more weeks before I tried that again and instead just walked until about 6 weeks. Give your body a chance to heal

  • My doctor told me I could start walking as soon as I felt up to it. I went out today and walked 2 miles with some friends. Took it at a slow pace and, like others have said, just enjoyed stretching my legs and being outside in the beautiful weather. I walked 4-5 miles a night up until the night that I went into labor so I think that's why I felt up to it so soon. I'm hoping that I don't regret it tomorrow... we shall see :)
