Infertility

Still in beta he!l; also started spotting

I apologize in advance if I sound like a total whiner -- it's just that whiney and slightly pessimistic seems to be my mode this evening.

Finally received the results for beta #6 (!!!) this evening, much later than I usually get them and about a half hour after the office had closed.  I had already put in a call to the after-hours RE to try and track down my results.  My level did rise, which is great -- but, not as much as I had hoped and the doubling time has definitely slowed from where it has been the past few.  I'm now at 562 (Thursday's beta was 189).  My nurse said the number is good and "rising appropriately."  Beta #7 on Wednesday -- if that goes well, ultrasound on Friday.

Most concerning, I also started spotting a few hours ago.  Fortunately, it's just brown blood.  Unfortunately, it very much reminds me of how things usually are when AF begins.  Told nurse about it and, not surprisingly at all, she said it's not necessarily a bad sign.  If it gets heavier or there are clots or cramping, I'm supposed to call the after-hours service.

Sooo, feeling a bit "blah" about it all this evening!  I've been able to remain rather optimistic throughout most of this, but I think today's events have worn me down.  Really wishing MH wasn't at work tonight.  I'd be very, very grateful for any T&Ps that you might be able to spare!!!  And thanks for listening to my rambling whine-fest!

It's too bad that we're not supposed to drink during early pregnancy because I can't help but think how much you could probably use a nice big glass of wine right now to ease your anxiety. I think it's great that your numbers are rising - the nurse's assessment sounds reassuring! For what it's worth, I had brown spotting when I was pg with my DS. I always have brown spotting before AF, but when I was pg it just came and went. Fx (still!!) for you!

  • I'm sorry you're still taking betas.  Betas were perhaps the most stressful part of the process for me.  From what I can see, your beta rose nicely and looks pretty good!  I think I read that the doubling time slows down as you get further along, so that's completely normal.

As for the spotting, it's also completely normal.  I had bright red early on and thought it was over, but it wasn't.

Again I'm so sorry that you're going through this, but I have everything crossed for you and hope that Beta # 7 is phenomenal and the last one that you have to take!

    Good luck!

  • THANK YOU ALL so very much!!!  You made me laugh, you made me cry, and you re-upped my positive thinking!!!  After a long shower and a guided imagery meditation, I went to bed very early last night -- I think that really helped my mental state.  Woke up this morning feeling much better about things, and reading your messages just fortified that!  I can't tell you how helpful your comments, thoughts, and prayers are.

Still feeling wary about this all, but definitely back to sending good thoughts in the direction of my ute!  As many of you mentioned, Nemo needs all the positive vibes he/she can get.  Still experiencing some brown blood, but no more than yesterday (possibly even less).

Trying to take it one day at a time this week.  It also helps that I've got plans on Saturday to see The Hunger Games and go out to dinner with friends -- giving me something else to focus on and look forward to!

Again, major thanks to each of you and (((hugs))) all around.  You ladies are THE BEST!!!

  • I was away from the computer most of yesterday but wanted to say you're in my thoughts and prayers!  And I agree with PP -- I've heard from PAIFers that it's normal for the doubling time to ease off a bit later on.

You've got one heck of a fighter in there, hanging out inside one heck of a fighter :)  You're doing great, mama -- and just remember -- right now, you are pregnant!  Try to enjoy it as much as possible and have faith in little Nemo, if you can.

Sweetie I'm so sorry your beta is not what you would like, but it is rising appropriately. I would take the spotting as a good sign, it's most likely your baby snuggling in nice and tight. GL on Wed. I hope you have an amazing beta and ultrasound!
