Best Yoga Poses for Labor?

Hi Friends,

Don't know if this is the best place to post this, BUT i can never make it to yoga classes with my schedule but I would love to do some yoga poses at home. What are the best poses to prepare you for labor?

Thank you!

  • Cat and cow, squatting, and hip opening poses are helpful.

  • I delivered going between hands and knees and child's pose. I think squats were also helpful.

yogadownload.com has great prenatal yoga podcasts.

  • I agree with cat/cow for practice while pregnant, but hated it while in labor.  Try to get comfortable sitting/rocking on the ball too.

  • Squats and squatting, like a yoga squat.  I pushed in that position because my back labor was way to painful for me to be on my back.  If I hadn't spent hours squatting in preparation (while reading or watching tv, etc) I don't think I would have made it through without the epidural.

  • There are some great prenatal yoga video podcasts for free on itunes if you want something you can do at home on your own.

YES! I didn't practice those hip poses enough with my home birth, I paid the price with an hour of feeling like my hips & thighs were on fire!
