Aubree was born at 8:13 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012. Weighing 9 pounds, 1 ounce and she was 21 inches long. Head was 13.5 inches and chest was 14.5 inches. )
I had been having contractions off and on since Sunday night/Monday morning. I actually thought I might have been in labor then, but we went into the hospital and my contractions spaced out and pretty much stopped.
My ?true? labor began at 3:30 in the morning on Thursday, March 15th. I woke up to my body having contractions that weren?t too painful every 4-5 minutes. I got up and walked around, sat on the birthing ball, timed them for a while. They weren?t going away, but I wasn?t really convinced that it was the real thing. I went back to bed and tried to sleep. I couldn?t sleep. I did wake up DH around 5:00 to tell him I was still having contractions. I tried a shower and they were still coming every 4 minutes or so. We talked about it and I was going to try to go into work.
By around 7 a.m., I was not able to walk comfortably every time I would have a contraction. I did not want to try and do this at work all day, so I called in. I was home by myself timing these contractions for about 2 and half hours. DH did return from work and we waited to see if the contractions would go away. I tried to keep busy around the house by putting stuff away, cleaning, surfing the internet. We even took advantage of the 80 degree day (in mid March of all times) and walked outside. I was getting to the point where I actually had to stop and breathe through contractions when we were walking.
Finally, after lunch I decided it was time to head in. The contractions weren?t getting better and they were getting more painful. I was still convinced that I would go to the hospital and the contractions would stop. We even sat in the parking lot for some time seeing if the contractions would continue. They did.
This was around 2:30 p.m. I checked in and found out that 3 other women were in labor and they only had 3 labor/delivery rooms and only 1 OB doctor in town for the week. I was placed in an observation room and they weren?t sure if they were going to admit me. The doctor came in to check and I was already dilated 5-6 cm and 100% effaced. We were not going home since I was already in a great labor pattern, I needed antibiotics since I was GBS positive, and I was a potential VBAC.
Once they got through all the admitting paperwork and we figured out where DD was going to go, the pain was getting worse and I decided if I was going to get my vaginal birth I wanted to be as relaxed as possible. I was still dealing well with the pain, but I didn?t want that to be the reason I stalled out. I got the epidural around 4 p.m. It did not take all the pain away and I was still feeling parts of the contractions ? not everything, but still could feel pain.
Around 5 p.m., I was wheeled into one of the recently vacated labor and delivery rooms and was dilated to 8 cm. The doctor gave me a little tiny bit of Pitocin to make the contractions even stronger to dilate me the last two centimeters. I started feeling a ton of pressure around 6 p.m.
Cervix was completely dilated around 6:45 p.m. and I was allowed to push. The epidural did not even touch the pain of all the pressure/stretching in the lower areas.
I pushed for about an hour and a half and Aubree came into the world at 8:13 p.m. assisted by forceps. The doctor was not very supportive of the VBAC since baby was having problems fitting under the pelvic bone. Once she was delivered, it was discovered that she was face up (OP) and big. I always made enough progress for the doctor to be satisfied with not having to go back for a C-section.
Since she was face up and helped out by forceps, I had a 2nd to 3rd degree tear that took about half an hour to repair. We were moved to the post-partum room around 11:00 p.m. that night and went home on Saturday, March 17th.

My first was OP too and I couldn't get her out. Although her heart rate wouldn't recover after pushing which lead to the primary section. I am so glad I could get DD2 out. Recovery has been so much better even with the tear.
