Hope for the binky addicts out there!!!

This is very exciting for us but we are officially Binky free!!!! I seriously never thought that this day would come. Katie has been a major binky addict practically since the moment she was born. We had weaned her down to only binkys at night, naps and the car since she was 2 but she was still hooked. The kid had 6 binkys in her bed!!!! I have been petrified that I would lose my amazing sleeper when we took them away.

One day I she was not listening to me so I told her she could not have her binky on the ride home so miss attitude says "Fine, I am a big girl I dont need it, call the Binky fairy" ; ). I did just that and slowly over the last month she gave up one binky at a time. We let her completly lead it and decide when to give them up. We would give her a little treat for each binly and then for the last one she got a Belle doll and blanket. We did not put any pressure and her and it was EASY!!! Friday night she put her last binky in there and told me she was ready for no binkys. She went to bed without an issue and slept all night. She has not even asked for it. I am definitely a supporter of letting kids decide when they are ready to give things up (with in reason)!!!!

But I will admit I am a little sad because this was her last "baby" thing. How is she such a big girl now????

I can't tell you how much hope this gives me. DD is a majoy binky addict as well. She sleeps with two in her crib and freaks if she doesn't have one or can't find one in there. We are down to naps and nightime (and being sick) only, but I am so afraid of having to "make" her give it up. We plan to use the "you have to give it to the binky fairy when you're three, so he can give it to a new baby" if we have to, but I would love for her to give it up on her own. Thanks

Yay! I've been telling Mark that we have to take his paci's and leave them at his 3 year old birthday party. Sometimes he says ok and sometimes he says he needs to keep one. We'll see, his party is Saturday. This post gives me hope.

My DS was pretty similar - we weaned him down to only one binky, but one day he said he didn't want it, so the Binky fairy came. He only asked for it once after that, but as soon as he was reminded that the Fairy took it and left him his trains, he was fine. That was with DD trying to give him hers for a while too!

Now we have to work on getting rid of DD's...but much later. My DS just potty trained, transitioned to a big boy bed and got rid of his binky. If DD did that too, I would be so sad - no more babies in the house!

Um can she come to my house and tell that to Nicholas? I've decided to let Nicholas decide when he is ready. He has chewed the hell out of the 2 that he has left. He's thrown one away already "That boke, throw it in the garbage" he said. If he does that with the other 2, I'm debating whether or not to just say "okay no more pacis" once he throws the final one away. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I don't want to lose my amazing sleeper either. Nicholas couldn't give a flying fig about the paci fairy or about getting any kind of toy for giving up his paci and he would probably freak out if we put his pacis inside a teddy bear. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I say if the ones he has break and he thorws them away then thats it. Katie rarely chewed on hers but I told her when she did that if it breaks then I am not getting another one. I also agree that Katie would have been pissed if I put them in a teddy bear. I think she would have been breaking that thing open!!

Really there is hope for all because I have never seen a kid quite as addicted as Katie but I will admit she was very open to the paci fairy is is very bribable : ) One other thing is that she gave up her school binky a while ago so she got use to naps with no binky before she gave up the nighttime ones.

I agree this gives me hope as well. Our guys will be 2 in two months and we still use the binky to sleep and when they are very cranky typically right before bed. I am terrified of what will happen when we take them. They really don't talk yet and I don't think would comprehend why they couldn't have it so I haven't pushed it yet. This gives me hope that my kids won't be going to kindergarten with pacifiers! Great job!

That is so great! One of mine is a binky addict,especially at night. She has to have one in her mouth and one in each hand to fall asleep. I have no idea how I'll ever break that habit. She's been giving them to me to put in the cabinet lately so maybe she'll end up getting rid of them when she's ready. Thank you for sharing your story! :
