Recently, my 3.5 yo has started saying he doesn't want to go to school/activities (he does 3 afternoon classes). I can't really get him to articulate why except for saying that he wants to stay home. Getting him ready has turned into a big struggle. I can't figure out why because when I pick him up, he always seems happy and says he had a good time. His teacher says he plays with the other kids, seems engaged, doesn't exhibit any problem behaviors, ect. Same thing for his activities, which I stay and watch.
He did it again today and now I'm sitting here feeling terrible for making him go. But I don't want to start a bad precedent because then he'll never go. Do your kids ever do this? What do you think is going on?
TIA for any reponses.
Re: Not wanting to go?
I think this is simply a 3.5 yo trying to assert themselves. I wouldn't really pay it any mind or feel guilty about it at all.
You can try to give him choices about getting ready/what to wear/what side of the car to get in on, etc. but bottomline - he's going to whatever Mommy says he needs to go to.
