Here is the short story... I was scheduled for a RCS today, but woke upon Thursday around 430 to some contractions that I thought could be an upset stomach. Dozed off and on until about 6 when I woke up DH and let him know I thought i was in labor. We showered, packed our bag, and got DD situated and headed to the hospital. Was 4 cm at check in... By the time I got my epidural 30 minutes before my csection time about an hour and a half later, I was complete so I thought I'd give vbac a shot... After 30 minutes of pushing Nora Reese was here at 7 lb 14 oz!
I am so happy I gave it a try. I did have a grade 3 tear but so far the recovery is like night and day from the csection, even though I consider my CS recovery to have been "easy." If you are on the fence about giving VBAC a try, I definitely recommend it... by the time I was in the position to try, I decided I had nothing to lose, and would have been disappointed in myself if I had come that far and NOT tried. My delivery experience this time was much more quiet, peaceful, and emotional for me (which is just about exactly what I felt I missed out on the first time).
The biggest down side: my OB was a complete b!tch about the situation. She was very pushy about the CS once I was there, and in fact when she was stitching me up said "well if you just had the CS you would have much fewer stitches." No congrats, WTG, so proud of you?? Be what it was, I still had a great experience and the amazing interactions with my nurses and DH completely offset her negative demeanor. Best of luck to all of you!
Re: Had a successful (though unplanned) VBAC on 3/1
Great birth story! Sorry your OB was a jerk about it. It's like you didn't get the birth that SHE pictured for you. I tore during my VBAC also and my recovery was still MUCH easier than my "easy" c/s recovery, like yours. I hope you see that OB for your 6 week follow-up and you are able to tell her that even with "more" stitches, you feel so much better and are glad you did the VBAC, etc. Why on earth would she try to push a c/s on you when you were 10 cm dilated and could just push the baby out??? Major surgery makes more sense?? Some doctors confuse the heck out out of me.
But glad you had such a great experience and you and baby are doing well!
Great story! I am glad you are happy with how things went.
Sorry that OB was a jerk--I always wonder why doctors like that went into obstetrics at all, if they are just going to be a-holes on one of the most important days of someone's life. It's like if you had a wedding planner who hated romance.
Anyway, congrats and thanks for sharing!
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Maybe she was mad because she couldn't just cleanly cut you open and glue you back together. She had to actually make sure everything was lined up and would heal properly...god forbid.
You should be proud of your accomplishment. Congrats!
