DS is only 12 days old and usually waking up once a night. He's pretty good. But it is still too early (I think) to try to establish some sort of schedule. So, when did your LO start to settle into a schedule and what does that schedule look like??
TIA!
Re: Talk to me about your Los sleeping "schedule"
DD is 5 weeks today and will sleep for 4-5 hour stretches at night, but she doesnt have a "schedule". bedtime is anywhere between 10-1 depending on her mood/ cluster feeding, etc.
There is no schedule during the day for meals or naps either. I can generally count on one long nap in the middle of the day and a short one in the evening. We have a long awake period in the late morning after she has eaten.
I cant wait for a "schedule" but my ped told me not to even worry about one at all for a few more weeks.
Just within the last few days we have been able to start thinking about trying to establish a schedule. Before last week I think Charlie was too unpredictable with sleeping alllll day long.
Right now we are usually getting up between 7-8 in the morning. He stays awake for a good part of the morning until about 11-12 and then takes a 3-4 hour nap. (I say this as he is napping in the swing at 9:30--not part of the 'schedule' we were falling into lol). After that he is usually up again for the evening. At 8 I bathe him-every 2-3 days) and then I feed him, swaddle him and rock him to sleep. he sleeps in his crib from 8:30-12 or 1 am. I stay awake until he wakes up and then I feed him, rock him and bring him back to his bassinet in our room to sleep. He usually wakes up around 6 to eat. Then, I bring him into bed with us at 6 and he will sleep for another hour or so. If my husband is at work overnight-which is 3 nights per week- I skip the bassinet and just bring him to bed with me.
At this point it is all very flexible. I would just start tracking your baby's activity at around 4-5 weeks. Write it all down a day or two in a row- when he eats/sleeps/periods of wakefulness- and then start to see if there is a pattern and try to follow that pattern.
Waking up once per night at 12 days is awesome.
We have always let DS set his own schedule. Currently it goes something like this:
8:00pm-1:00am sleep
1:00-1:30am- feed/change
1:30-4:30am-sleep
4:30-4:45-feed/change
4:45-6:30-sleep
6:30-wake him up for the day (on weekends he'll sleep until 7 or 8)
(he would sleep past 6:30 but we have to wake him to get ready for daycare)
Daytimes vary quite a bit, but we have a really regular night time schedule
10pm Feeding begins
11pm Place him in his bassinet (after we rock him to sleep)
4am Feeding begins (I have found that his diaper is dry most nights)
4:30am Back to bed
8am Change and feed
The 4am feeding can vary by +/- an hour
The daytime he usually takes naps, but they have to be with me holding him or he wakes up. Strange considering how good he is at night..
