Anyone's dc still have cradle cap?

Ds still has it. He has decently thick churlish hair on top so its hard to see jnless in the right light and we've used olive oil, da stuff shampoo. Not sure if we should do it more frequently or what. We usually only bathe him twice a week. Suggestions?

  • J still has it. His allergist said it is a form of eczema. She advised to bathe him every day...that it right....every day because it needs moisture. She also said not to use soap unless he is obviously dirty. Every night I get his head wet and use a comb to gently scrape the flakes out. Then i use baby oil to moisturize.

  • Max has it - and I feel bad because I didn't even notice until we were out in the bright sunshine! We're going to try CJ's BUTTer (just ordered), as recommended by a friend. The good news is that I hear they usually outgrow it by one year.

This exactly! We were told to bathe her everyday, but not wash her just scrape her head. We also use baby oil and just leave it in there.
  • DS had it HORRIBLE.  But then we started to use a baby brush to scrub the heck out of his head every time he had a bath (every other night).  Then we put the same lotion we put on his body for ecezma on his scalp after his bath.  We also put it on his head in the morning and on his scalp the nights he doesn't have a bath.  Cradle cap was totally gone after like 2 weeks.  We have continued the routine and haven't had issues with the cradle cap since!

  • If any one is using the pink Johnson and Johnson soap, that could be causing it. My oldest daughter is 4 and she likes to use that soap because it doesn't hurt her eyes. I was braiding her hair after a bath and found her head was full of cradle cap! It's the only thing they share. So I started making her use kids shampoo after putting the cradle cap stuff in her hair, it was gone in a day. I guess because there is lotion it cause that thick layer of gunk. I changed DS's to a hypoallergenic soap and it's been a lot better. I've used it with all my kids, you think I would have made that conclusion before now!
  • so how does putting lotion or baby oil on their scalp work out when they have a decent amount of hair?  Doesn't it make the hair greasy?

  • We went to the doctor her Lo's 9 month appt. She has cradle cap still and the doctor said not to use baby shampoo because whatever makes it not hurt their eyes is drying. She said to use Cetaphil body wash on her body and hair.  We just started and her hair doesn't look as soft clean as it used to, but I hope it helps.  Also, we have to comb her scalp with baby oil.

It does make their hair greasy.  What we did with DD 1&2 was put the oil in and use a comb to work it in and get all the loose stuff off (leave it in for 10 minutes) and then rinse and wash hair normally.  I'm not sure if that is the "right way" but it worked for us.  LO doesn't have a lot of hair so we put the oil on and use the "hair scrubber" that the hospital gave us and that gets it all off, and then rinse and wash normally.
