Recommend your wrap (carrier)

I've heard about the Moby and the K'tan. I don't think I would like an actual carrier (like Bjorn) since it doesn't seem like you would be able to be as close or bond as well as if you had a wrap instead. Am I right in that? Any other suggestions?

Re: Recommend your wrap (carrier)

  • You can be close and bond in any style of carrier. Bjorn isn't loved because it puts the baby in a bad position for hip development and comfort, but I have an Ergo Sport and love it.

I also have used a mei tai (I just had a cheap Infantino Wrap and Tie, but I liked it), and I use a ring sling for running errands now.

Different carriers work best in different situations. Some people love wraps; I never really got into them.

  • Totally depends on the situation for which carrier I choose. I have a moby style wrap that I made, loved it when she was tiny, I still use it for longer walks/trips to the store now and she likes it. I made a mei tai, not really a fan of that, I find it too hard to get on tight enough and comfortably. I have a boba on the way which I think I'm going to love when we're out and for hiking. I also use a sling a lot when we're just running in and out of stores since it's the easiest and quickest to get on and her in and out of. It's small so I keep it in the diaper bag. She's not a fan of the stroller so if she gets fussy in there I'll just put her in the sling!

  • I love my Balboa sling/carrier. My daughter is about 15 lbs at 5 months and I think it fits up to 25lbs??? Sounds heavy to me, but the thing is sturdy and well-made! Almost every time I use it for errands, I have someone stop me and ask where I got it. Cute print and so convenient- no ties or multiple straps or whatever. BB&B online for $45, I think.
  • I have the Moby, which I love for around the house. I just bought a Beco Butterly 2 for out of the house- and I love that too.  The ladies on this board introuduced me to the idea that you can rent carriers/wraps before buying them. I had a Moby already, but I rented the Beco and trialed it for 2 weeks before buying it.  I would highly recommend doing that, because I see lots of posts where people are complaining that they hate the carrier they got- and they are expensive!

I used quirkybaby.com to rent and it was nice because you pay 20 dollars for 2 weeks and if you decide to buy the carrier that 20 dollars goes towards your purchase.

  • I had a Moby with Chance and LOVED it. I'd highly recommend it. It looks hard to use but if you watch the Youtube video it's a breeze.

  • I only wrap with woven wraps, and I adore it. So, I can only say good thiings about wrapping. That said, that I think that all carriers provide a similar bonding experience as long as you don't do front-facing (which isn't advocated for your back, baby's body position, or baby's ability to turn away from over-stimulation). The Bjorn is a crotch-dangler, so I won't advocate that. But, other soft-structured carries (I think that is the term you are looking for) can be just fine--Beco, Ergo, Kinderpack, etc.
