Cheerios :(

After reading here & on a few boards that LO are already eating puffs or cherrios... I was all excited, because today I was gonna try giving Cheerios to DD, to see if she had pinchers grab down and ate them. but.... First when I poured the Cheerios unto her tray she look at me with a WTH look, hehe The proceeded to pick them up (so she has that down), but never put them in her mouth. She just played with them, while I fed her apple & papaya puree Crying Meanwhile my dog looked like a mini vacuum eating the ones that fell on the floor.

Could this mean she's just not ready for finger foods yet?? I tried bread before also and she'll play with, but won't eat it. She does pick up small objects.

TIA

Have you tried showing her they were for eating? I let my DD lick a Cheerio that I held so she could taste it and also ate one to show her that they could be eaten.

I have never had any issues getting her to try to put something in her mouth though. That seems to be the first stop for everything...LOL!

  • Yes I picked up one cheerios at a time and ate them, to show her. But, she would just look at me and smile. lol She will put everything in her mouth except for food Embarrassed I even put one in her tight lipped mouth and it popped right back out Tongue Tied

This was my dd. I kept putting them on her tray since it kept her busy for a few bit while I got her food ready, then after a week or so she figured out what to do with them. Except sometimes she'll forget to let go once the cheerio is in her mouth and take it right back out again. Then she looks at her hand like 'WTF'.

  • I would just keep trying.

It took my LO a day or so to get the hang of "it goes in the mouth."

Even with new foods, she still doesn't always get it.

It's part of the learning experience.

  • The first two times I gave Cheerios on the tray, DS had a blast playing with them but didn't even try to put them in his mouth. Both times, I took a Cheerio and fed it to him a few times, but he didn't get the clue. The third time, for some reason just clicked and he started putting them in his mouth. Since then his pincer grasp has developed really quickly and now he's so fast eating his Cheerios, I can't replace them fast enough.
