I watch a little boy who is 10months. He does not hold his own bottle.
If you try to put his hands up to hold it he will not open them and will let the bottle fall out of his mouth and start crying. He also does not eat ANY solid foods when he is with me (730am-1pm). When I ask him mom she says he only eats organic, which is fine, but I am just wondering.. Is this normal? I know babies all develop at their own pace I have just never experienced this before, with my own kids or others I have watched when working at a daycare.
Thanks ladies!
Re: normal?
I think DD was holding her own bottle by about 11 months. I never encouraged her to do it though, because I just held it while I rocked her.
As far as eating, they may just still be focusing more on liquids than solids. Some babies are exclusively breast fed for 2 or more years. They get all their nutrients from it, so food is more for learning than actual nutrition.
I guess I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Mine will hold a bottle, but when she does she takes a couple sips and then wants to play with it, so I usually hold it.
She was not into baby food & purees at all, refused to eat etc, but as soon as we started sharing from our plates and giving her adult food it was freaking on. She's still weird about eating stuff without a ton of texture. eg, she won't eat mashed sweet potatoes, but her favorite food is baked sweet potato fries... there's actually more fat & salt in the mashed.
So either it's fairly normal or I'm in denial, heh.
