What's the "rule"? Is it bad to heat all plastics? Just plastics with certain numbers stamped on them? Okay to put in the dishwasher but not the microwave? Neither or both? (And where does BPA fit into the conversation?)
And, whatever it is - do you follow the "rule"?
I'm ashamed that I ignored the press on this when it was a hot topic a while back... thanks for saving me from the depths of google ![]()
Re: Do you microwave plastic containers?
I try hard to avoid it. Dh often takes leftovers in plastic & reheats in micro. Occasionally, I will eat a lean cuisine or something that cooks in its plastic tray. I always avoid it for reheating food for Eliza.
I try to buy bpa free whenever possible.
This. I guess I'm a bad parent too.
Add me to the list. And plastic plates sometimes too.
Is there room in the bad parent club for one more? The only ones I don't microwave are the melamine (?) ones that say do not microwave on them. Everything else is fair game.

I don't microwave any plastic. I'm slowly replacing them with glass containers now because it will be easier.
Yup. I put stuff in a bowl to zap.
BFP with no treatment!
I try to make sure I only microwave in glass as well. I've also been trying to get away from heating any plastics with our foods, including spoons/ladles/tongs when I'm cooking on the stovetop.
Are plastic crockpot liners OK to use? I would love to use them for the convenience factor, but am worried about the possibility of them leaching chemicals into our foods.

This is us too. Plus the plastic ones always get all gross and stained so it'll be nice to be rid of them and just have glass.
