Last night I passed a softball sized clot along with Niagra Falls type gushing blood in a matter of seconds, which soaked my pad. We called 911 and I was taken to the ER, where they did all kinds of tests. Turns out that the stiching from my labor tear had covered up an area that was still bleeding 17 days post delivery and all the blood finally all came out. Doctors told me I am ok. I am still very shaken up by the experience. Has anyone dealt with anything like this?
Re: softball size clot
No, but I agree with pp that it sounds scary. I would have been really stressed if it had been me.
Glad it all turned out ok, and hope you feel better soon.

I did.
About 6 years ago, when I had my son. When he was 8 days old, I woke up in my bed, soaked in a pool of blood. I got to the bathroom, passed a clot about the size of a softball, then gushed blood all over.
I went in the L&D where I had my baby, and they rushed me in for an emergency D&C. Apparently a part of the placenta had torn during delivery and stayed inside, causing the hemorrhage.
It was seriously one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me! I am sorry it happened to you, too, it is very freaky. Get some rest, and Good luck to you!
2 weeks post delivery I had the same huge gush of blood. Our bathroom was a mess. I called my doctor and she told me to go to the ER. So we went in and we drove so I had towels in my pants so I would not wreck our car. But after some very painful searching the doctor found a piece of placenta that was left behind. I had to be admitted and given something in my IV to make my uterus contract again. I also had to be checked again and pass more clots to make sure all of the placebta was out. If not I would have had to have a D&C but luckily, it all came out on it's own. It was very scary and for about a week after I was very tired and weak. I was worried that it would happen again since I didn't have the D&C done. But now I am 2 months out and just fine. So your bleeding is for a different reason but I definitely know what you are feeling right now. Just keep an eye out for anymore large clots or heavy bleeding. I had a few times after that I was spotting and was terrified it was going to happen again but it was all fine, just more healing. Hang in there!
