16 Weeks Pregnant

swimsuit

I'm looking for advice & opinions on swimsuits.  This is my first baby & I have a cruise planned in January & should be about 5 months pregnant.  I've been looking at swimsuits, both maternity & non-maternity, and am wondering if anyone has any tips or pointers?  So far my bump has been small but I'm not comfortable wearing my bikini and there seems to be less & less fabric for my boobs & butt!  :o

My thoughts were to get a non-maternity suit so I could wear it after pregnancy too?  Or would it be all stretched out anyway or not fit very well with the tummy?  The maternity ones look nice too & I'm wondering if there are big advantages to a one piece or tankini?  I like the idea of a one piece, but it's not exactly swim season so I haven't been able to try one on yet.  Thanks!  :)

Re: swimsuit

  • I just got back from a vacation in Mexico.  Granted, I'm only 16 weeks now, with my first as well, so not really showing, however, I've always had a bit of a tummy bulge to hide.  I am a fan of the tankini's.  You can find some cute patterns and cuts.  I actually wore a one piece (i've had it for years and never really liked it, but when I put it on, my boobs actually fit into it!) I just wore this one piece with a cute, light-weight cover-up I found online at Venus.com.  There was a woman at our resort that was 5 months pregnant and wearing a bikini.  Honestly, she looked cute with her belly! At 5 months, it was cute, but not like, OMG!  Another point to make is that there are SO MANY other people that have worse off bodies than you and they are sporting skinny-minis!  But, I also do understand the need to feel comfortable! Let loose and enjoy your vacation! Vacation is the time when you should feel relaxed, not worried about what other people think you look like! Because, you will likely never see them again!! Have fun and good luck!

  • Thanks for the input!  :)  I like the idea of just wearing a regular one piece & I think that would be easier to find.  I've noticed too that occasionally pregnancy clothing can make you look extra pregnant!  So it might be nice to just be in a regular suit.
  • I know this is quite late and I'm sure you already have purchased your suit, but I just bought my bathing suit from Seraphine's online and bought a very cute pin-up looking one halter one piece. Check that out and see if that' s your style. :)
