If you use a stroller....
1. what stroller do you have and/or about how much were you willing to pay for it?
2. What instances do you find yourself going for the stroller over the carrier?
3. If you have more than one child, do you use a double stroller? Push one, wear the other?
We decided just to start out with the snap n go, and see how much we use a stroller and go from there when we don't use the car seat anymore. I know that I want some type of stroller, but can't decide how fancy I want to get. I love the city mini, but I think that might be a little over the top since we babywear so much. Perhaps a decent quality umbrella stroller? But, those still seem overpriced for what they are. There's also the graco literider at Target for like $60 or $70 bucks which seems a logical choice....but I am tempted by some of the more expensive ones. I don't use the snap n go all that much....but we haven't ventured out to places like the zoo yet either. I sometimes wonder if I would be comfortable going for long walks wearing DD, or perhaps I would get more use out of a stroller other than the snap n go which doesn't require having to put her in the car seat in a situation like that. I tend to get tired wearing DD on the front and carrying the diaper bag on my back. Gosh, this turned into a rambling. If you have made it this far, thanks!
Re: If you use a stroller (piggy backing off "babywearing mama's" post
Hi! Usual lurker around here, but I'm coming out of my shell a little...
We have the City Mini and I highly recommend it if you're in the market. The sight lines on it are great (I can always see my six month old and he can always see me), and it's fantastic for long walks/day trips or those times when I have to run an errand and carrying multiple grocery bags, etc would be clunky with a baby strapped to me. Also: he loves it. It seems quite comfortable and he often (but not always) falls asleep in it.
ETA: You can pick one up for under $200.
1. what stroller do you have and/or about how much were you willing to pay for it? I have the graco metrolite from my shower, so I didnt pay for that. I got the combi twin sport for $200. I also got an umbrella stroller for free from BRU when I bought my double.
2. What instances do you find yourself going for the stroller over the carrier? If we're going for a long walk/trip to the zoo I'll usually wear baby for part of the time/put her in the stroller with her brother for the other half/
3. If you have more than one child, do you use a double stroller? Push one, wear the other? I do use a double stroller occasionally for the reason above. Now that DS is older, I mostly wear the baby/let him walk.
I have a jogger. I love it, but we really only use it at the mall or on long walks. For
Ahort walks, LO prefers to walk by himself, and if we're not moving constantly he
Freaks out, so the Ergo is essential if we're going to be stopping for any length of time. Plus, the stroller's a beast so the carrier is much easier to transport.
We have a jogging stroller - we use a lot. DH takes LO for long walks for her nap sometimes. It's a work horse and very comfy for her.
We also have a cheap light umbrella stroller we use if we are going busy places with my family - like a festival or mall. My mom likes to take her and doesn't wrap, but the jogging stroller is big and clumsy for crowded places.
1. Chicco Liteway, $85 used
2. Long walks (over 30 min), trying on clothes, the chiro (for me), the doctor (for me, if it's for him I wear him).
3. Only 1 for now.
I might pick up a more hardcore stroller/bike trailer as well this summer. It just wasn't necessary last year, so I decided to wait and see. For a trunk stroller, I love the Liteway. If I get something else, it will be a jogger/trailer for getting out this summer.

Cloth Diaper Review Sheet
We have an old metal-framed umbrella stroller from Freecycle. I wasn't willing to spend money on a stroller, so I watched on FC for one for occasional use. We use the stroller on Fridays when DS comes to work with me and I have to bring in him, my work bag, his diaper bag, lunch bag, purse and supplies. I can load that stroller down and then I keep LO in it until I get all settled and it the room is secured for him to run around. When he was little, we used a snap-and-go (borrowed) for shopping trips when I wanted to try on clothes or tote around lots of shopping bags and the same scenario at work.
We will have 2u2. I plan to keep things about the same as now, since LO will be a better walker then and I can wear both or just wear the new baby. Someone is giving us an old double-stroller, so I'll be covered for my work day. When we go on a family outing, I forsee DH wearing DS and me wearing #2.
More Green For Less Green
We have a combi ...Cosmo, maybe? that was around a hundred. It's a umbrella+ type that we chose because it had a full recline so we could use it right away, and I've liked it pretty well. DS didn't like to be in it much until he was maybe 18m, and I had no reason to bother bringing it anywhere if he wasn't going to want to use it, so it was almost exclusively ergo for a long time. Even after he got interested in it, we still didn't use it a whole lot because the Ergo was still easier- usually only if it was both DH and I going somewhere (so one could chase kid and the other push empty stroller!) and it was going to be longer.
Since DD, it's been getting a lot more use- we go to the mall maybe once a week and since the bookstore and kid area are on one side while the museum and target are on the other, we walk a lot :-). DD gets carried while DS can walk or ride, and by now the mall proper is boring enough that he rides a lot. We actually just bought a double (a double/sit and stand for ~100 on clearance) so that I can take it on long walks this summer and bring a lot of stuff and have cup holders/ snack trays for all, and both can ride if they want. We actually used it for a walk today so that we could have adult cupholders, and it ended with DD in the sling and DS walking almost the whole time :-P.
If you use a stroller....
1. what stroller do you have and/or about how much were you willing to pay for it?
We have a Phil & Ted Sport that we got when DS1 was about five months old. We got it because of its ability to turn into a tandem (we knew we wanted more kids). It was about $400, but I know you can get them used or on eBay. We also have a McClaren (which we got on sale), which is great for traveling or when we're using public transportation. We were soooo sure we'd never own more than one stroller, but the P&T is just too big for some places, having a good umbrella stroller has been great. We use both of them a ton.
2. What instances do you find yourself going for the stroller over the carrier?
Once they hit about 25 pounds, it's hard lugging them around all the time. I use the carrier mainly for public transportation anymore, or in conjunction with our umbrella stroller. DS1 just turned four, but I used the P&T all last year when I had to do errands around the neighborhood (we live in a major city). He's a good walker, but sometimes it's just too far for him to walk.
3. If you have more than one child, do you use a double stroller? Push one, wear the other?
P&T! I would have totally gotten the City Mini if it had been available with DS1 was a baby - it looks even more awesome. But I wore DS2 and pushed DS1 until DS2 was big enough for the P&T (about 5-6 months).
You can start wearing her on your back when she's about six months (though tended to wait longer with both my kids). We were hardcore into baby wearing when they were both little, but strollers are popular for a reason - they are handy!!
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
We have a Graco Literider and it was about $60.
I used it for shopping when she was still in the infant bucket because she would fall asleep in the car and hated being worn. Now we just use it for hikes if we are all beat, otherwise she is worn.
House / Baby blog
We have a BOB. It was expensive, and we paid retail for it. We really only use it when we're going out for a walk for exercise (with jogging thrown in), or a jog. If we're just walking down to the playground or just taking a casual walk before dinner, or going out and about anywhere, I still reach for one of the carriers. We only have one baby, so I can't answer number 3.
If I wasn't a runner, I wouldn't have gotten a stroller at all. I think my decision will have been even further solidified when I get good at back carries in my woven wrap. Right now, the Ergo and our ring sling are my go-to's, but I can't wait to get better at back carries!
