I know that there is an allergy board, but it doesn't seem to be as active.
My LO was recently tested for milk allergies, hence the reason why it has been so hard to transition from BF to WCM. Any suggestions on alternative sources to ensure LO is getting the right nutrients? For example, I saw that rice milk is not a direct substitute, but am not sure if enriched rice milk is. My biggest worry would be ensuring he got enough fat.
Just curious how others have handled this in the past.

I am BF now, but at the point where I want to wean, but have yet found an appropriate source to wean to.
I was also told to avoid all eggs for now. Interestingly, he has been okay with yogurt, but has a reaction to WCM. He also has a reaction to peanuts. Fingers crossed he grows out of it by the age of 2.
That's surprising about the eggs. Did the allergist do a skin test? If you are BF, you should avoid all of those things too. We are hoping DD grows out of dairy by age 2, but so far its not looking good. She can handle baked dairy OK (i.e. baked goods containing milk products)

We did a blood test at the peds after my LO had an allergic reaction to some of the 1 year vax. Through the blood work we were able to detect egg, dairy, peanuts.
I'm curious about the line in bold. How do you wean if you are to avoid stuff? He has certainly had stuff made with eggs and milk and has been okay, but I believe it is the direct consumption of it that is an issue.
DS has allergies to milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts. For him, its any form of those items, but for some kids eggs or milk in baked goods, but drinking a cup of milk or eating straight eggs is a problem. Regardless, I would avoid any of the allergens he tested positive for- allergies can worsen over time. If he tested positive to peanuts, did they also test for tree nuts? Are almonds safe? If so, almond milk is an alternative to WCM. We use soy milk for DS, soy yogurt, vegan butter substitutes, sometimes soy cheese (but he hates it)....
About the line in bold above, I believe that the poster meant that if your child tested positive for all those items, and you are BF then you yourself should be avoiding any milk, eggs, peanuts to avoid transmission of allergens in the BM.
Since DS has so many allergies, when we started introducing new foods, we would wait a few days before introducing a second food so that we would know what he had a potential reaction to. Good luck, allergies can be tough. We are used to the avoiding now and it has gotten a lot easier. We are still hopeful that he will outgrow milk and eggs, but the nut ones are much less likely to be outgrown.
Does your child have an epi pen?
Thanks for the clarification. I have been consuming almost anything while BF (with the exception of cow's milk since I don't drink it) and it hasn't been a problem. I eat eggs fairly frequently, and peanut butter sparingly, and have not noticed a problem.
We have yet to see an allergist, but that is our next step. The results came back from the ped who drew blood after a reaction to my LO's 1 year vax. She said that eggs were the highest (and should be avoided) and milk and peanuts were secondary, but I could try to give as long as he tolerates it. When trying to transition to cow's milk, I did notice that spots on my LO's skin would turn red where it would touch him, so I plan to avoid it. My DH took the call, so unfortunately, I didn't get the info first hand.
I am curious, if you don't mind telling, what your LOs reaction was to the vax? My LO had a reaction to her first shots. Are you able to continue vaxing? My pedi advised against it on our case. You can PM me if you don't want to get into a vax debate in this thread.
Re: dairy free subs. My LO can't have dairy. We still BF and I am dairy free. Therefor she does not need a milk sub. She wouldn't drink one anyway - we have tried almond ( which is what I drink and cook/ bake with) and coconut. Those are the only readily available options for us, besides soy, which I do not like, and rice, which is to thin for my taste. I have heard good things about hemp milk but have not tried it.
We use earth balance for " butter" and diaya shredded cheese is the best option I have found. Yogurt is easy to find in soy or coconut and delish. ( except plain - yuck)
You don't need to replace WCM with anything if you are providing the nutrients with other foods. A good nutritionist could help you. I plan to go to one if/ when LO weans and she still can't have dairy.
