I need someone very knowledgeable to chat with about cloth diapers and everything involved with the process.
I was given a small stash of gDiapers (14 pants) - and I want to get started ASAP - but I'm at a loss for the best way to go about it. I need tried methods that work for people.
I have a very limited time, so sorting through all the internet has to offer really isn't an option right now. I know it sounds absolutely absurd, but I'd love for someone who is willing to chit chat with me about their experiences and system.
If you're interested, send me a PM (and something on here so I know to check my messages - and I'll tell you how to find me on Facebook)
Thanks.
Re: Needing someone to chat with about Cloth Diapers
Glad to hear you're excited about CDing! I spend most of my Bump time on the CD board. I'm new to this one.
Anyway, I used gDiapers for about a month with my LO. We ended up having to buy a whole new stash b/c we had so many leaks. Sorry to say, many ppl have issues with those diapers.
I don't mind giving you some insight into my experience if you'd like. I'm much happier with the stash we use now!
PM me if you'd like. GL!
I'm one of those who hasn't had any leaking problems with gDiapers - we've been using them for 22 months! (Well, we probably didn't use them the first four weeks or so, but I don't remember exactly when we started using them.) We use gCloth, NOT the disposable inserts, which I hear more complaints about.
Not sure what all you want to know...
We use a DiaperChamp with a wetbag inside. When I change a diaper, if it's just wet, I take the cloth out, put it in the diaper pail, and lay out the pant/pouch so I can use it again later, then put a clean pant/pouch/cloth on her. (We don't use the newer liners.) If it's dirty, I put it to the side, clean her off and put a new set on, then - if the poop hasn't gotten onto the pant at all - take out the pouch/cloth, empty it in the toilet, and put it in the DiaperChamp. The pant goes with it if I suspect it's got anything on it.
Every other day, I put the whole wetbag of diapers (and the wet bag) in the washing machine (front loader). The first cycle is a cold/cold cycle, set to heavy with an extra rinse. For this run, I use about half a cup of vinegar. (Which I didn't do the first year or so - as kids get older and have more foods and more variety of foods, ammonia buildup is more of a problem. We strip vinegar soak our diapers every two months or so) For the second run, it's hot/cold, with an extra rinse, and a tablespoon of Charlie's Soap. Then into the dryer on medium for an hour and a half. The whole thing takes a while, but doesn't require a lot of intervention.
I don't bother to pre-stuff the diapers or even get them put away half the time - they often stay in the wetbag (clean) on the floor or in her crib (we cosleep, so she never sleeps in there) as we use them.
I use them "on the road", just making sure I have a smaller wetbag for the dirty/wet diapers and plenty of spares, since they need to be changed more often than disposables.
Some notes:
- water hardness varies by location so what works for me may or may not work for you. you will likely have to tweak your system for your needs, and know that may change over time as your kid gets older.
- Charlie's Soap bothers some kids skin, so you might have to find a different detergent.
- for night time, at around 18mo, we moved to pocket diapers with double stuffed bamboo inserts. she was starting to leak out of the doubled gDiapers. but it's night-time; I'm not surprised. these are the sort of changes to your system you may have to make over time.
Good luck!!
