Gassy baby, which bottle do you use?

My LO is 3 weeks and we started her out on Similac for preemies, then last week switched to Similac reg and that made her extremely fussy/gassy. OB put her on the sensitive and that seemed to work until today and she has been up forever fussing.

I use Avent bottles and I think that is letting in a lot of air. I have been using gas drops and that helps for just a while. Would switching bottles help? Any other tips? I've tried the leg exercises and that relieves some gas but she is just miserable.

  • DS is breastfed and is horribly gassy, so you may just be lucky like me and have a really gassy baby. In any case, when I pump and give him my milk in a bottle, I use Dr. Browns bottles.

  • We use Dr. Browns bottles.  They are a pain in the butt to wash, but totally worth it.  Also, we use gas drops here and there which seem to help a bit.  The thing they say with Dr. Browns is to sit the baby up while you feed them.  That also helped quite a bit.

  • We've had a lot of gas issues too. We tried the dr browns and it didn't seem like they helped. We use the wide playtex ventaire and the drop-in kind. They've helped some.

  • I use Born Free. My lo had this same problem. I started with Tommee tippee(nipple collapsed constantly), Avent she got a lot of air, playtex ventaire had a fast flow so she would gag and take in too much air. So born free active flow bottles have been working great for two weeks now. She now has occasional gas instead of everyday gas.

  • when DD was on formula, we used the similac sensitive in dr. brown's bottles.  seemed to help with her fussiness and gas!

  • We use Born Free.  DS is only a week and a half old but its worked for us so far.

  • Dr. Brown's, Medela and the new Similac SimplySmart bottle. (https://similac.com/baby-formula/baby-bottle)

Have you tried Similac Sensitive For Fussiness and Gas? It costs the same. I used it for DS1 because normal Similac Advance made him super gassy. That, and put gas drops in the formula.

  • Dr. Brown's!!! Wish I would have started using these sooner. DD is wayyy less gassy now. I also made my life easy and got 2 of the dr browns dish washing baskets and a formula mixing pitcher.

  • I switched to Dr. Brown's which helped a bit but at 2 months nothing was working- similac sensitive was just not agreeing with her. We switched to nutrimagen- way way more expensive but she is a different kid.
