Baking question

I attempted making fruit leather tonight, the recipe said to simmer the strawberries until soft and mushy then pur?e them in a blender.

I didn't read far enough into the recipe where is said to bake for SIX TO EIGHT HOURS (I started this at 7pm.)

So I poured the pur?e into a container and stuck it into the fridge.

My question should I warm the pur?e back up before I bake it or just pour it cold and stick in the oven?

Re: Baking question

  • I have no idea but just have to say this reminds me that I tried to make dried strawberries last week from a recipe I saw on Pinterest. They were supposed to bake for 3 hours. They just turned out mushy, not dried and chewy like the recipe said. I threw them all away. Was so annoyed that I wasted two containers of strawberries!

  • Since it bakes SO long, I'd guess that you do NOT need to preheat; however, you may need to bake for closer to the 8 hours than 7.

  • The only reason I could think of that you might want to reheat is getting it the thickness you want. If it's heated it will pour smoother where you will be able to make a thinner leather, where a cool mixture might be harder to spread out thin. But it all depends on the thickness you are going after.
