  I prefer Colette 100% over Genevieve... I've never found that to be an attractive name, sorry.

  My SIL is Genaveve, and she is either called her whole name, Gen, or Veve.

  I am in a similar boat as you...I love the name Madelynne, but there are so many Madison girls now that there are Maddy s all over...so I don't want her to have a common name...I am thinking we will go with Madelynne Elizabeth and use Lynne or Libby (short for Elizabeth) as nick names....DH goes by his middle name, so that is where I get the idea of use the middle name as a nn.

  As far as your choices...I really like Genevieve better...try to not shorten it...if people shorten Colette she will be Lettie or Cole, and both of those are meh (IMO) compared to Gen.

  I like both names, so no help there, but I do think if you are adamant that she go by Genevieve, peoplewill catch on. Until she;s older and decides what she wants to be called anyway.

  I love Genevieve. It's such a beautiful name. Honestly I've NEVER met a Genevieve who went by that nn. I know several - they go by Genevieve, Jean, Viv, Vivienne, and Eve, and Evie. There are lots of variations you can do. Just be clear which one you want used and start calling LO by that. If people start the whole Gen/Genna thing, politely correct them. No big deal.

  I think Colette is beautiful!

  People will call Genevieve Gen.  I am a Jennifer, I get called Jen ALL THE TIME even though I say that I prefer Jennifer....  So annoying!  I hate it.  

  Other French names I like are Celeste and Miette.

  I am a sucker for french girl names as well and I adore the name Colette. In fact that would most likely be this baby's name but it sounds ridiculous with our last name, think collect phone call. I think Genevieve is pretty as well but it just seems more fussy of a name. I think Colette will age well and it goes great with Madeline.

  I have a friend named Genevieve so it's a good association... We used to call her Gen or Vivi but actually alot of people called her the full name in college.
