S/O schedules... 2 naps?

I have been asking a few people about this lately, but maybe will get more feedback here, as 6-9 prob. sees this question 17X a week... DS is still on 3 naps, but I feel he is in the weird mid-transition phase where 2 naps is too little, and 3 is sometimes too many, if that makes any sense. If you have moved to 2 naps, how did it happen? Did your LO just space things out naturally on their own?

Re: S/O schedules... 2 naps?

  • We are still at 3. There have been a few days that she didn't get the third simply because we didn't have the time, but she was so, so cranky. I don't really want to cut it back anytime soon, and hopefully DD won't either. Sorry, I was no help.

  • We are using The Sleep Lady and she says they drop the third nap naturally around this time.  The other naps will be longer as a result.  Like 1.5 hours each.

My LO naps horribly at daycare so with the time change we moved her bedtime from 7 to 8, and try to get a nap in once we get home and she's BFed.  Today, we napped from 4:15 to 6:30.  Oops.  :-)

  • My son doesn't nap, but I stick him in his crib 3 times a day if that counts.

  • I'm kind of no help either because we don't have a set schedule so the length and frequency of her naps changes day to day.

I just wanted to say though that she pretty much always had at least three 45 minute naps a day all the way through 7 months. Now in the last few weeks she has definitely had days where she only takes two naps, but she has also started (within the last week) to have some longer naps that are closer to two hours. So I think she's technically getting about the same amount of sleep, just consolidated. I feel like she's definitely in some sort of transition.

  • We are still kind of in transition too, but I'm hoping it will happen the same way we got down to one morning nap.....his 7:30am catnap and his 10am nap became a 2hr 9am nap.  I've tried pushing his 1pm nap back to 2pm, but he still wakes up by 3 either way.  The past couple days he has just sat there and talked and played when I try to put him down at 4:30, so I think he is done with that nap.

This is pretty much us.  He takes a 2 hour 10 am nap, and then usually 2-4 or so, but if he wakes up too early from his second nap, he'll get grump about 5:30 but won't nap anymore without a fight.

  • I just let her do it naturally.

There was about 2 weeks where she was crabby/didn't know what to do with herself at the third nap. Somedays she'd fight so hard to stay awake and be hard to deal with. The next she'd sleep. Still the next she'd play through it just fine.

Then she started sleeping about 10 minutes longer on her morning nap and goes down about 20 minutes later for her afternoon nap to make up the difference.

She's good now with just 2.

She's still much of a napper. Hour in the morning. Hour and a half in the afternoon. But she also goes to bed at 7 and sleeps pretty well..so I don't dare whine.

  • I never really gave DD2 a chance when it came to naps.  I got her on DD1's nap schedule ASAP.

They both sleep 9a-11a and 1p-3p and it's amazing.  I'm cherishing every nap my 2 yo takes, since I know she's nearing the end of her 2 nap career.

How do you get your LO to sleep for 2 hours? Obviously you can't make her lol, but there is no way in the world DS would ever nap for 2 hours, twice a day.Sad
