Two Under 2

Ljojo & other moms that put two toddlers in one bedroom

I read one of your comments that said your two daughters sleep in the same room. I have two girls. I am expecting our last and final addition at the end of May. When baby three arrives, DD1 will be 2.5 years old and DD2 will be 17 months old. We want to put both girls in the same room. The youngest will be in a crib and the oldest will just have transitioned to a big girl bed... hopefully. Can you give me some tips on what worked well for you?

  • The room (and crib) "belonged" to DD1.  When DD2 was born we kept her in our room in the bassinet for a few months.  When DD2 was 20 months we transitioned her to a toddler bed (small room, twin and crib would not fit) and left the crib completely empty for a month or so.  Once DD2 was only waking 1-2 times per night we put the bedding back on the bed moved her into DD1's old crib, and it went pretty well.  Now both of them are in toddler beds and they fool around A LOT more than the boys ever did!  But they eventually fall asleep in their own beds.  GL to you!

Sorry, I just saw this post.

DD #1 is 3 in a toddler bed, DD #2 is now 15 months and she's still in a crib.  I was so nervous to put them in together and I thought it would be a disaster, but after a short time of adjustment, I think they really like being in the room together.  When DD#1 comes out of the room it does disturb DD#2, so we have to make sure she has her nightlight, sip of water, and favorite doll before bed time so she's not in and out of the room.  DD #2 did cry more at first, but now she has adjusted and she'll just roll over and go back to sleep.

Just try to get a routine, stick to it, and they will adjust and get used to sleeping in the same room.  I'm so glad we did it now!
