  • Emmie, Emmy...

  • I'd go with Emmie. If you didn't want the -e sound at the end then what would be the point of putting the letter there. I don't know what sound you are going for though, OP.

  • My DD name is Emmaline, and we usually call her Emmy. People have spelled it Emmie before but never Emme. But I if I saw Emme, I would say Emmie/Emmy. FYI- most people think we are saying Emily.

  • I would pronounce it like the letter: M. Just like Elle is pronounced like the letter L. I would suggest Emmy or Emmie if you want the "e" sound at the end.

This was my intention, that it would be pronounced like Elle but with mm's.  It was confusing to the few people I talked to about it and I see it's confusing here too.

If we wanted to call her Emmy, we'd spell it Emmy or Emmie.  Our goal is to find a name that people understand immediately. This doesn't look to be it.

    Agreed!

It sounds like some people haven't heard of silent "e's" before. Huh.

I agree. I didn't ask about a baby nam-ee, but a baby name. :-)  That said it's obviously confusing and I'd rather have a name that people understand right away.

  • It's not a silent e, it's French and is pronounced Em-may.

Yup. I've never heard anyone pronounce it "Emmy." An E at the end of a word is often silent.

In French, an e at the end of a word is only pronounced with an accent - ?. An e at the end like in the name Danielle is not pronounced. It's the female version of Daniel, and there is slightly more emphasis on the L sound than in Daniel. But it isn't pronounced Dan-yell-AY.

If that's the case, then just spell it Em.

Yes, I have heard of a silent "e". Anyone with any sort of education  has heard of a silent "e".  What an odd thing to say.
