NBR: What do you use?

I am just curious about if people are using MAC or PC. I think my computer was infected last night and I am not happy about (freaking out actually). I have heard that MACs are not able to get a virus, but didn't know how true that statment was.

  • I use a PC, and I've never had a virus. I'm a major computer geek though and have a really good anti-virus. Dang thing is like Fort Knox when it comes to installing anything. I always forget I have to disable it before installing anything new... And then once it's installed enable it again.

I thought I had a pretty good antivirus. I guess not though. My computer went haywire last night and I am freaking out. Mainly because I haven't backuped my Itunes in a long time and I don't have any of my videos of DD saved anywhere else. Her pictures are mostly on shutterfly and some other webistes.

I would just back stuff up now, but I am concerned that I will just bring the virus with it. Crying

  • The thing is, a lot pc owners have viruses they don't even know exist. I swear PCs come with viruses. I converted to Mac about 4 years ago. I converted my very anti-mac, pro-PC husband about two years ago. We will NEVER go back to PC.

The way it was explained to me. It's not that Macs can't get viruses, it's just that they don't. Well most of the time. Macs are far better protected than PCs because of their operating system. Also, at one time at least, PCs far outnumbered Macs. Virus writers didn't really waste their time writing viruses for both OSes. However, I know a lot of DJs use Macs, and there have been viruses created specifically for their programs.
  • You can try using Malware Bytes to see if it can find the virus and quarantine it. As far as freebie programs go it's one of the better ones. We use it at work when people get viruses. I've saved a few coworkers that freaked out about their work documents being lost.

Thanks for the advice, but it won't even let me open IE

Supposedly, PCs have the better hardware and Macs have the better software. A lot of the stuff I did in the past wasn't Mac compatible. So I've never switched... Well, that and I've never been willing to pay the price. Up until recently I've always custom built my PCs, so I know it didn't come with any viruses. =)
