I had mine today and was expecting it in the arm but they gave it to me in the butt muscle. Did everyone else get it there? Has anyone had any side effects from it?
I've also had the butt and no side effects. Depending on the baby's blood type you'll get another when they're born. With my daughter they asked where I wanted it and suggested the butt because it could make your arm numb, which wouldn't be good while taking care of a newborn.

I only got it once in the arm and twice in the backside. The arm was horrible. They prefer to do it in a large muscle mostly because if it's the prepackaged one it has a big needle attached. They can't do anything to make it hurt less.
For my little man...I only knew you in my heart.

I was able to choose butt or arm, I got it in the arm, it was a little tender for an hour or so after but then nothing else.

When I had my miscarriage I got it in the butt. With DS and this pregnancy I got them all in the arm. The only side effect I had was my arm was very sore for a day and it "burned"

Don't worry about it unless you've been told you're RH negative. It's not common. For most races about 8% of women are RH negative. For white women, it's 15%.
I had my shot in the arm and I thought I might be having side effects afterwards. I was tired and nauseous but it turned out I was just dehydrated. Apparently it rarely ever causes side effects.
I had my first at 17.5 weeks after my amnio, and got it in the arm. Hurt like anything!!! The doctor just jabbed me really hard and it was extremely painful. My arm hurt for the rest of the day.
I had my second at 28 weeks, and that was in the butt. Much, much better that time around. A slight burning sensation when the medicine went in, but for the most part, relatively painless.
The nurse who gave me my second shot said that it shouldn't be given in the arm because it's "too much fluid for the arm." There's more fatty tissue in the butt/hip area, so it tolerates it much better. If there's a second baby for us, I will insist on having it there...the arm was more painful than any other needle I've had to deal with (including the after effects of tetanus shots). She also told me to expect another one after baby is born, but that will depend on whether or not he's got positive type blood (they'll check the cord blood) -- if he's negative like me, it will be unnecessary. If I do need it, they'll put it into an IV.
I'm really the odd woman out, I got mine in my hip! She said I could choose the hip or butt so I chose hip. It was sore for a few hours but that was it, no other side effects!
Re: Rhogam shot?
Only women with negative blood types get it.

I got mine on Monday. No side effects so far.
I totally forgot that it was a butt shot too! I had one with my last pregnancy, but I forgot!

Popping in from October 2011 board. I also got it in the bottom. I had no side effects.
Best of luck to you!
