C25K

I'm planning on starting the C25K tomorrow and wanted to know from those of you that have done it, what did you think? What kind of weight loss/toning did you see from it? Were any of you breastfeeding while completing it? Thanks All!

Re: C25K

  • I know its not going to get me into bikini ready shape, but a start in the right direction is what I was hoping for. I'm starting Weight Watchers as well, so hopefully between this, WW, and BF, I'll see some of these pesky pounds and fat disappear!

I did C25K to build up to my first 5k which I ran a year ago on 3/17.  Now I am running my first half marathon in just 13 days.

It is a very good program.  With that said, I modified my plan to fit my progress. No ONE plan is perfect for EVERY person.

One thing, getting into the program as a beginner, I developed shin splints. (very common newbie runner injury).  So, before you start, make sure you have shoes that are right for your gait and for your feet. You can go to a runners store to have your inner arch, foot looked at.  This made all the difference in the world for me.

Also, don't be afraid to walk more if you need.  If you find the plan is pushing you too hard (where when running you can't catch your breath or couldn't hold a conversation) then slow down.  You dont want to over-do it and feel miserable.  You want to make it enjoyable so you want to do it more. Be more focused on covering the distance, and don't worry too much about your time.  It's all about getting that time in on your feet.  Once you've established distance, then you can work on speed.

As far as weight loss, I lost around 30lbs from when I started running in Jan to around April-June.  Toning wise, running has realled lifted my butt (haha, but it's true) and toned my calves and thighs.  I've got some strong muscular legs now.  Running does wonders, really!

I have been running for a year and 3 months now, and have lost around 50+lbs, and am in the best shape of my life.

You should def give the C25K plan.  Give it a try, modify it a little, and stick to it for the 8 weeks.

Oh, and I wasn't breastfeeding, since you asked.

    GL!

    That's inspiring!

OP- I'm starting C25K also on top of doing Jillian Michaels 30 DS. I figure this way I "have" to do it because I'm following a program that keeps me on track. Good luck!
