Toyota Highlander Hybrid...thoughts?

Looking at getting a mid-sized crossover so we can fit the rear-facing carseats (likely used). Does anyone have the Toyota Highlander Hybrid? What do you think of it? Has it been worth the money?

  • My mom has a 2008 Highlander Hybrid and loves it. We've only ever put one car seat in it, but it fits great. She has the 3rd row seating option, It's a little tight for adult but perfect for kids. Overall it's been a great car, awesome gas mileage for an suv!

  • My best friend has a highlander and she loves it. I've never actually ridden in it though, but from what she says it is great.

  • I got one in December and love it. Our car seat fits comfortably and we have plenty of room for storage. I was afraid that it was going to be like driving H's truck, but it's been so easy.

  • I have the regular Highlander and really like it. We have two cars eats in the second row currently (one FF and one RF but there's no reason we can't do both RF). Lots of room left in the rear for storage or the third row of seats. I've ridden in the third row for a trip of about three hours and it wasn't horrible. Not ideal but not horrible either. Mine is the 2008 and ivebyet to have any issues.
  • sweet! Hopefully I get to test drive one this weekend...I'm excited! I'd really love to get a hybrid, but so many in this class are only offered in the "luxury" models, and we just can't swing hybrid AND luxury.

  • This is my dream car right now. Glad to read so many positive reviews of it.
  • So the test drive was great...I loved it (DH wasn't so sold on the regenerative braking, said it felt "squishy" to him)...but I think you DO have to drive hybrids a little differently than a regular gas engine to get the best benefits. Lots of room, neat captain chair options in the second row. Nice third row option.

I was a little bummed to learn that only the 2011 models and higher have the 28/28 mpg. The older models only get 27/25 mpg which is only marginally better than say a brand new Ford Edge. A new hybrid is not an option for us :(  ...so we'll see.
